Spent a couple hours on the river tonight scouting (and did a little casting)……Kind of dissapointing results……granted we didn’t look TOO hard, but the rice patches and pot holes we checked that have held good numbers of early season birds in the past (woodies and teal) were a bit lacking…….was also kind of upset to find one of my favorite back woods pot holes pretty much dried up .

Geese are still thick around the area….with multiple flocks heading down river again tonight….They’re not likely to hang around in the open areas much after opener though

    erick,
We are close enough now, that showing your video would probably be counter-productive.
Even with all of the mixed reports, I will have issues trying to focus for the remainder of the week. Ya gotta love this time of year
The fishermen that I have been talking to have actually been reporting good numbers of ducks and geese, they wouldn’t be messing with my annual attention defecit, would they
    cheers

Spent the weekend scouting between Alex, Fergus Falls and Battle lake. Bird numbers look to be decent. But the big story is Christina. What a succes story. The pencil reeds and water clarity are looking GREAT. This lake has made a 180 in the past 3 years. I am looking forward to seeing what the migration looks like this year. I expect to see a good number of birds back on Christina.

5 days and counting boys. Drake. My DADD (Duck Attention Deficit Disorder) has kicked in. The only cure is to WHACK a few this weekend.

It is more likely that they will be in the marina in Stillwater or over on Lily Lake, being hand fed bread crumbs
That area has a good number of WMAs that have water and thus see plenty of pressure. Coupled with the number of public waters in that specific area that have decent rice, you will hear plenty of shooting
    Good luck
    cheers

    chriss,
There should be reports of my Alumacraft Yukon, with the strange frame on it, slipping through Brainerd early Friday morning. You should see the looks I get from the fishermen when they see that boat going down the road
They must think I am a big baby going to do some cold weather fishing in a floating (heated) fish house.
I am in charge of the fish fry Friday night for the guys, so my scouting will get done early
    Good luck
    cheers
