good shooten! once it starts freezing i try not to throw out my decoys for that reason. its a pain in the but to hand set each decoy but the ice makes a glare on the deke and not to mention they are somewhat chalenging to pick up when they are ice cubes! i know tho there is some days on the open water where the waves and the splahes from th ewaves do it ne ways tho.

It’s just part of life hunting big water divers. Even on the calmest day your going to get that on the water he hunts. 10mph winds are all it takes in the areas where Drake frequents. If your set up in a good spot your going to have to clean dekes. I used to hunt up there and we’ve tried it all. But boy does he have it by the stuff. I would give an eye tooth to be back up there when the divers hit it. (Hint Hint )

Thanks for a great year boys. Here to looking to next year.

BTW.. Hows the trip of a life time coming Drake? Did you go or are you?

    Chriss,
I was afraid that only puddle hunters were paying attention to those photos
My Arkansas trip is still on the line. Apparently January is typically their best time, but birds have been slow to arrive with this goofy weather.
The attached photo is the one that got me blamed for giving our Minnesota waterfowl the avian flu. This one was not actually released back into the wild though
Will any of our frequent visitors to the waterfowl forum be attending the IDA GTG at Hunter’s on Mille Lacs next weekend?
    Good luck
    cheers

    I’ll be there.

Here is a picture of the Goose Hunting GTG back in November. I forgot I even had this picture.

Big water Big fun. Even though I do love the river! We may have to work out that trade we’ve been talking about. If MM can stay out of the Bar maybe he could wake up to join us.

Won’t be at the g to g. I now have 2 women that may say it’s alittle early. Maybe we should work out somthing local in Feb.. End of the season walleye or late season crappie.? Thats if were not in the baots yet. May need to make it a pool4 smallie trip.

actually i DO hunt big water and i DO hunt divers. i hunt lake pepin after the back waters freeze and im pretty sure that is big enough water. i also posted quite a few pics of us hunting divers so please dont classify me as a “puddleduck” hunter. all i sayd was that it helps to set out the decoys. i ALSO said that some days (ie hunting big water or windy days that you cant help it) we absolutly KILLED the cans this year. between the guys that hunt with us we killed 22 cans one weekend (friday-monday) and could of killed hundreds more. we murdered the redheads cans bills and buffies in north dakota and shot a pile of divers here in the late season. so ya i guess that WOULD make me a puddle hunter. here is one morning hunt that we teamed up with a couple guys staying at the resort at a pond i found the day befroe we left.

6 guys 1 duck short of a limit.
