I’m sure not impressed with Wisconsin’s conservation plan or the example that they are setting!
People need to realize, sooner or later, that we can not just restock our duck population, like is often done with fish, after excessive harvesting is allowed to all but eliminate a resource
I certainly hope that the Minnesota deligation continues to represent the conservative perspective taken by MOST Minnesota outdoorsmen .
cheers

I look at Wisconsin limits and dates and I think to myself, boy I think I will buy a wiscony license this year.
Hunting has minimal impact on duck populations. Habitat and food is what maintains populations. Wis has it right keep duck hunters interested in the sport, drive license sales, secure funds, create habitat grow duck populations.
If it wasn’t for hunters no one would care about waterfowl other than a few self interest groups.
MN so called conservatioal approach breaks the spirit and the willingness of the duck hunter to hit the marsh. It’s not about harvests as much as it is about opportunity. If MN is going to reduce interest and enthusiasm in duck hunting then we will only see further declines in waterfowl populations.

ya i second wall dog by the looks of a split season and what not I also see myself donating my $$$ to WI and ND this year as well….I am not a meat hunter by any means but with the split season and what not yes it does give me a chanve to harvest more of them big fat greenheads that come late and yum yum i can taste them already off the grill wrapped in bacon…by no means is this tring to start an agrument here either just agree with the walldog it is conservation and managment od habitat and land especially in the breeding grounds that is going to help our ducks stick around….

i myself like the four duck limit in mn. i can drive over after a morning in wi and shoot my four and go daily without a lot of pressure. last year i saw 8 people all season and i hunted it four days a week..a lot of mn guys got mad and stayed home in my opinion, keep it at 4

If you’re suggesting that guys stayed home because they could only shoot 4 birds last year………That reasoning doesn’t make a whole lot of sense……
The only people that are mad about the 4 bird limit are those hunters that actually can bag 4+ birds per outing (the avg. hunter bagged 1.7 birds/trip last year if I remember correctly)…….it is highly unlikely these hunters (those that enjoy the sport enough to put the effort forth and bag 4+) are going to just stay home.
The ones that are going to stay home are those weekend warriors that go out and don’t even see a duck…..but that has nothing to do with limits…..but everything to do with the duck population
Yep, I’ll be buying a Non-res WI license again this year, but not because I can shoot 6 instead of 4…..but for the extra days on the end of the year (and I like to hunt with a couple Cheeseheads )
I am interested to hear how you guys feel about the 7 day split in WI southern zone this year (as apposed to 5)……seems like a lot of guys could be upset they lose the second weekend of the season to gain a Monday and tuesday on the end .
I like it, just because I have the flexability to hunt MN durning the split……and my life schedule allows me to hunt on the mondays and tuesdays…….(and wednesdays and thursdays and fridays, for that matter . its gonna be a fun fall!!! )

agree with jake there for sure the extra days are big in my mind as well..i had not thought about the weekend lost deal though that kinda sucks actually….but i will be in North dakota that week anyways and thanksgiving to….anyone seeing much for locals on the river right now as of yet..i checked out our farm up near taylors falls last weekend and on our slough at sunrise it was completly covered with teal and woodies already so i sure hope they are not planning on going anywhere soon!!!

Here’s what I don’t get about the “conservative” MN limit. What are you really conserving? The majority of bag for those who don’t hunt divers alot is mallards and woodies. Mallards are still at 4, Woodies at 2, just like WI. So basically, you are mostly conserving those 2 extra gadwall, teal, widgeon, etc. that add to a mallard bag. If it is really in the name of conservation, why not cut back to 3 mallards per day?

I would prefer to see the weekend warriors get that second weekend early in the WI season, then close for the 7 days and have the second opener on a Monday, better yet close for 8-9 days and have the second opener on a Tuesday or Wednesday. That second opener is worse than the first.

I agree. That would be sweet.
Last year for us anyway the 2nd opener was WAYYYY mor crowded than the first.

I’m fairly new to WI and am wondering why they moved the North/South zone line to the south, in effect creating a larger northern zone. With the climate changes, shouldn’t it go the other direction? I’ve heard from fellow St. Croix Countians that we’re losing some good late season hunting now that we’re in the north zone. Can anyone explain the reason for the zone change?

The only way a smaller (save ducks) limit works, is if the rest of the states in that flyway follow the same regs.
Other than that you just add more ducks to the next state and it makes that states hunts better.
