Early ducks over dekes – 4 shot Fast Steel, mod or I/C

As ducks get wiser – 2 shot Fast Steel, mod or I/C

I usually keep some BB in the bag just in case the sky carp are flying.

Winchester SuperX2 with 24″ barrel, true glo sites.

I usually vary to chokes depending on the wind and weather.

Ducks over deeks use a mod with 4 highvis 1500-1550. Knocks them dead. I am a firm believer, speed kills!!!

    Ditto there.
Just remember! Just because the IDIOT on the other side of the slough is sky busting doesn’t mean you have to. Good shots + clean kills. Take your time and be patient.

for what it’s worth I don’t skybust. I have been hunting ducks for 30 + years and I know my ranges. I was really hoping I could get some good advise(and I did) without being ripped for skybusting.

I don’t think anyone that replied is saying that you are a skybuster by any means. I think your post was a great topic and that I wanted to make sure we as duck hunters keep our own ranges in mind. There are probably a lot of newer duck hunters reading these posts, and I think all of the subjects talked about lead to better duck hunting. With all of the technology out there, I think sometimes we all start to forget about our physical limitations and abilities. I know that sometimes when I am having a bad spell shooting , and everyone does, it is not always my equipment, it may be that I need to focus on technique.

I know I’ve really enjoyed this post and I’ve taken some good tips out of it also. Have fun duck’in.

OK. Ducks over deeks, mod with 4 shot. Later in the year, 2’s with mod.

Geese. Pattern Master with 1’s, BB, BBB and T’s later in the year. In close over decoys mod or Pattern Master with 1’s and BB. Later in the year, BB, BBB and T’s with a Pattern Master.

You have to get use to shooting a Pattern Master because the pattern is so tight. If you are off a inch, your off a mile!

If you are shooting Heavy Shot or Tungsten, smaller shot will work fine.

Remember, SPEED KILLS! I shoot only Hi vis loads of 1500-1625 FPS.

Get them in close and shoot them in the LIPS!

What once shot is in 3 inch loads with 1500 – 1625 fps?

At the time I think high velosity was only around 1400 – 1500?
Years ago I tried high velocity and didn’t like the idea of using 1 1/8 oz instead of 1 1/4.

    T-Bone,

I was not in any way saying that I thought you were or are a Sky buster. I apologise if it was taken that way. It is one of my biggest pet peve’s so it tends to get added to conversations at times.

I would be pissed if I felt somone had called me one. So I wanted to clear this up. No offence intended.
