Where are they? Coots, you know, the funny lookin ugly black ducks that show up seemingly Overnight by the thousands? I have only seen 2 down here south of La Crosse. Its the one thing that lets me know the birds have started to mocve from up “nort”.

They are all piled up out on the lake by red oak. There must have been a thousand of them out there.

October 11, 2005 at 7:57 pm #10529I was out hunting this weekend with sledhead by cosmos(pronounced cosmis) and the slough that we hunted had tons of those little buggers on it, he even hit one with the john boat while ROWING around the slough.

October 12, 2005 at 12:40 am #10543all i heard was a bunch of splashing and then out from the back/under the boat he poped up like nothing happened those things didnt have a good weekend with us we opened fire on them the one and only time i will ever shoot at them we had my younger cusins with (8 and 10 years old) and my 12 year old brother and me and redneck and my uncle and the younger ones were getting board because it was a slow day and we didnt want to burn them out if you know what i mean so they shot at them they flew right tward us and thy worked good for tranning my uncles new puppy

I did a little driving around that area and didn’t see a duck…wasn’t looking that hard…but the locals were saying it wasn’t a very good year …so far…
Lot’s of Coot on lake Ripley by Litchfield… of course a ton of geese.
