Where are they? Coots, you know, the funny lookin ugly black ducks that show up seemingly Overnight by the thousands? I have only seen 2 down here south of La Crosse. Its the one thing that lets me know the birds have started to mocve from up “nort”.

They are all piled up out on the lake by red oak. There must have been a thousand of them out there.

There are plenty of them on the river right now. I have a feeling we’ll see plenty more scrounging around with the water coming up.
Have you ever hit one of them with your duck boat. They just don’t move.

There’s a couple of big rafts of them bouncing around up here on Lake Wissota. They’re a’ comin’!

Never hit one with the boat, but I have shot 6 with one shot AND scooped up 2 with a dip net while the were “flyunning” (flying and running)next to the boat.

I was out hunting this weekend with sledhead by cosmos(pronounced cosmis) and the slough that we hunted had tons of those little buggers on it, he even hit one with the john boat while ROWING around the slough.

    Red Jr…Cosmos out past Hutchinson?

I did a little driving around that area and didn’t see a duck…wasn’t looking that hard…but the locals were saying it wasn’t a very good year …so far…

Lot’s of Coot on lake Ripley by Litchfield… of course a ton of geese.
