What a great day in the marsh today. Woke up to a moon lit morning, with 3 kids and an anxious dad to get out in the in the duck blind. Flick and I and one of our buddys took the 3 kids and their dad out. Even if we had gotten a limit, I dont think the day could of been any better. Two of the kids had never been duck hunting or even shot at a moving target so it was a learning day for them defnitally. We got set up, with about 50 floater decoys of pintail, teal, woodies, widgion, and mallards. Added to that was a half a dozen full body mallards, a lucky duck, and of course, the great blue heron decoy. Got set up and got hid. Shooting time comes around. Already seeing many ducks in the decoy spread, a girl named kelly pulled up on a spoonie, bam, drops her deader than a doornail. Not too bad for a girl who has never shot at a duck before to nail the first one she shoots at. Many a misses later, a single goose comes in. Only one kid had rememberd to get his goose permit, so he pulls up on the goose that was decoying with out any goose decoys, just the calls. The goose is about 10 yards away and he dumps him. It fell about 15 feet away. Low and behold, it was BANDED! Very first goose jacob shoots and kills, had a band. Lucky kid! Many another miss later, a hen pintail comes into the decoys, two shots later by a kid named cody, she finds herself dead on the water. Many a misses after that, we decide to call it a day around 10. The look on those kids faces when the two shot their first duck was priceless. And the kids dad who shot the goose, you could tell was totaly pumped. He kept saying, THATS INCREDIBLE OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH THATS UNBELIEVEABLE!!! We all had a great time. Im sure theres a few more people that we will see in the marsh on days to come.
It was a great day to be a kid!
