Early scouting report

We have been doing some scouting and finding new areas for duck hunting. On the lower end of pool 7 there are lots of wood ducks. I can’t even begin to count the number we consistently see each time out. We have also seen quite a few teal and mallards. The teal and mallards have not been in any big numbers, but they are around. Water levels are low and appear to be dropping. The vegetation is high and healthy There are plenty of “potholes” hidden in the weeds and that is where many of the ducks are going in the morning as well as afternoons. Not many geese flying over the marsh, but we have seen a few in the fields. The early season should be a good one by what we have seen so far

While doing “fishing/scouting” this summer, I have seemed to have noticed more mallards and far less teal than in past years.

I agree Moss The mallards at this time outnumber the numbers of teal seen. Woodies are thicker than molasses in January The woodies are my favorite bird so I enjoy watching them.

Today during the youth hunt, their was a big shift in species. Today showed a bunch of teal as well as mallards. The funny thing is we figured we would for sure get the kid on some wood ducks early, but we didn’t get a single one. There were very few woodies where we set up today. Not that it mattered, we all had a blast getting a limit this morning. By the sounds of things, there will be a lot of happy youths today with all the shooting going on
