I don’t know how many people go out for youth duck hunting day but I thought I would give everyone a heads up. Youth day is on Saturday Sept. 17 and it starts 30 mins before sunrise and goes till 4p.m. The limit is 4 ducks per person, it may not include more than 4 mallards (no more than 1 of which may be a hen), no more than 2 wood ducks, 2 redheads, 2 scaup, 1 black duck, and 1 pintail. Only people 15 and under may shoot, but they must be accompined by an adult 18 or over. Persons shooting that are 13 or older must have with them their hunters safety card. This is my last year of shooting for youth day , I encourage everyone and anyone who can make it out with a child to do so. You will NOT regret it. It has been a wonderful experience for me and it will be times that I will not forget for the rest of my life. Youth day is early enough in the year that it is typicly not cold and even if you only go out for a couple of hours if the person that you bring gets to shoot or even see a duck come in they will be hooked for life.

On a side note, Please practice gun safety and also match the gun to the size and experience of the Child that you take. Let them use a gun that does not kick to hard for them. And again, please be safe when handling any firearms.

Good post Redneck Jr. I wish I had someone to take me hunting when I was a kid.

So, I would like to offer a youth in WI a seat in my boat and do some duck hunting. If anybody knows a kid that would like to go, get a hold of me on here or call me at 608-526-3590. A friend of mine is also taking a youth out in his boat. We have been doing some scouting and have a couple of really good spots picked out. The youth hunt is so much fun for the kids due to unpressured birds and it is pretty quiet compared to the regular opener. Thanks.

A friend and myself took Dustin, a 13 year old out this morning. We had a blast and he had his limit by 7:30. The kid sure could nail the hard shots, but missed the chip shots The day started out with a little fog, nice south wind, and chilly. We threw the dekes out about 5:45 or so. Right away we had a lone drake mallard land and then a short time later a teal landed about 5 feet from the boat. We just watched them for awhile. Then at shooting time we told the kid to “take ’em” and he missed After that it was steady shooting. He ended up with 4 teal, 1 mallard, and 1 widgeon. My buddy and I were the retrievers and man did we have to work for some of them. We hunted in a small pocket surrounded by wild rice, cattails, and lillies with a very soft muddy bottom about 3-4 foot deep. We both got quite a workout this morning. All around the marsh there was good shooting and duck were really flying. Great day to be on the water.

Sounds like you guys had a good day. I wish our day had been so eventful. We started out the morning with 2 teal sitting in the decoys before legal then when legal came they were gone never heard where they went. we waited for a couple of hours then got our first shots. Then only a couple of more the rest of the morning. after about 1:00 we were so bored that 2 teel took us by suprise and ended up getting away without a shot. VERY VERY slow day for me and my buddy colten. we ended up with 2 mallards, 1 widgeon, 1 gadwall, and 2 huge geese. we saw very few ducks and didn’t hear hardly any shooting. We were in western mn.
