Yep…..We ended up having a pretty decent WI early goose opener

There were a lot of geese flying around this morning (more than we had orignally thought were in the area), but most wouldn’t give us the time of day. We weren’t in the feild they had all been feeding in, but instead a feild infront of where the geese were headed. We knew the big sweet corn feild the geese have been using would be crawling with guys, so we stayed away and just tried to pull a few as they were headin out or headin back after getting banged out of their regular spot.

Well, it worked OK as we had several flocks circle that we probably could have shot at, as well as two flocks and a single completely commit (suicide? )……gotta love watchin em back pedaling 10 yards off the deck!!!

Unfortunately, they wanted to land off the left side of the spread instead of in the intended hole, so we didn’t get the best shots off at them (tough angle)…..but we did manage 8 by 8:30 .

Best technique for this morning was VERY little calling and a lot of flaging

That is awesome Looks like you got some real nice geese as well. Great job

Now, I got a question for ya. Is it possible to shoot geese from the water during the early season? I am planning on hitting the area around here this weekend and trying to find some geese.

Love that second picture Jake…even the gooses butt!

Almost makes me want to get my stuff together. We never had a goose season…well we did…but if you were lucky enough to see a goose, you followed them (many times over 50 miles) in the hopes that they would sit down. Never happened with me.

Where you’re shooting there, I think I could even hunt as long as I had my cane…

Looks like you had a good time!

Hey Wats…..Yes you can hunt early geese over water in WI…..just remember you have to buy the special early season tags .

Brian…..I don’t make fun of your butt, so I would appreciate it if you didn’t make fun of my gooses butt

sounds like you got a good start to the upcoming season, maybe later in the year we can get together again. it is nice to see someone having the time to do the early hunt.
the hunting tactic of not calling and just flagging, did the guys you hunt with actually give you a call, or were you just the flag man. Nascar may want you….

Jake, glad somebody did some good. I live in Illinois and we have a nuisance season from Sept 1st through the 15th. I hunted this evening and we did not see a goose in the air. I have hunted this field for three years and have killed a limit every time in the past. It was a bummer. Normally this is like shooting fish in a barrel. Not tonight, glad you got them. I dove hunted around a pond this afternoon and could have shot geese there, I guess that I should have. I took this field for granted and now will starve. LOL. Congrats and continue to have fun. I will be back out tomorrow evening.– Rob
