Anybody have any input on these? I am thinking of buying a 20 hp unit in the next day or so. I am debating on that or the go-devil. Both are the same price and in the same condition (used, but in great shape). Not sure what I am going with for a boat yet, but will be deciding on that soon as well.

I had a beavertail for less than a year and had several problems with it. Traded it in and bought a 23 briggs go-devil with no problems for the last 3 years. Is the go-devil the briggs, honda, kohler? I’d go with the briggs (pull start) and as wide and flat of boat you can find…. at least 16′ too. The bigger the boat, the more water it displaces thus better performance. Good luck, I think you’ll be happy with either.

Both the devil and beaver have Honda motors. What problems did you have with the Beavertail? I am likely going to make my decision by tomorrow so any info you have would be great.

The big one was that the “v” bracket that bolts the motor to the frame busted so I was out a month waiting for it to get fixed. But I also had a fuel pump and starter go out of it…all within a year.

Had the same problem Duckilr. Had my beavertail for 2 weeks and was out running it thru some 2″ water (with no waders of course) and all of a sudden it just quit. Had to pump the ball all the way back to the landing after I had to push it out of 25 yards of 2″ water cause I didn’t have an extra hand to pump the ball and control the motor. So, it was in the shop for 4 days there and they had to put a new electronic fuel pump on it…….Then 2 days after I got it back I was at the landing and the starter went to @#$%. So back in the shop it went. After that (only 3 weeks old) I traded it in and went with the go-devil 23hp with pullstart as well. Seems like it just depends on the batch you get cause my cousin has a beavertail and doesn’t have a problem at all with it and never has in the 4 years he has had it.

Not going to regret it either way ya go.

Well, I made the decision today and went with the Beavertail. I will pick it up along with the boat tomorrow after work I went with a 15 ft. flat that was used and already camoed up. Now I need to set it up with running lights, fog lights, and a blind. A friend of mine has already done his so we are going to set mine up the same way. It should be a fun project I can’t wait to get it on the water and figure out how to run the thing . Hopefully, the motor will not have any problems. Thanks for the input

Sounds like you have yourself a heck of a set-up Wats. Like I said I just think they had a couple bad batches is all cause my buddy doesn’t have any problems, plus that Honda motor should run forever…………….well, a guy would think it would run forever if it is like the cars. Have fun with the new rig AM.
