I can’t get excited about hunting until the temps get to where the daytime highs are in the 50’s. Swatting mosquitos and sweating your butt off while sitting in the blind just goes against everything Ive ever known as “hunting”. I don’t usually hunt the early duck season unless we have a frost by then.

I drove around the Hudson countryside this weekend and did not see much in terms of geese. Tough with all the high corn to see what’s in the fields in between. A few flocks of honkers in cut hay too close to town or major roads. Are there more birds down in your area?

August 29, 2005 at 4:18 pm #9456ya we have a few geese around here. still nothing spectacular. we have about 150 in a flooded grassy bay and then about an hour south of me theres about 100 in a cut sweet corn field. seen a few flocks if 10 or so in fields but no more than that. not really worth setting up on opener. but for the most part theres not really many geese around here.

August 29, 2005 at 4:47 pm #9448Our land was cut 10 days ago. 40 Acres of cut wheat! My uncle counted 200 or more feeding 2 nights ago. Every couple of years the farmer that tills our land plants wheat. Those are the years I get whipped up for early Goose!

August 30, 2005 at 2:20 am #9476Yep….I’m ready!!!
I might be able to get out of class Thursday to whack-em (can you skip the second day?
).
The geese we’re hunting are acting very funny this year….in one feild one day….completely vanished the next
……but I think the plan is going to be to set up in the closets feild to their exit route (off the roost), and hope to get to em before the rest of the crazies with guns
.
HOPEFULLY it’ll work

Posts: 776August 30, 2005 at 8:44 pm #948638 hours peeps and I will be whacking the crap out of the honkers………………..well, I hope to anyways. I have to agree Jaker. They tend to show up close to the area, but are in a different location every other day or so. Seems like their is 2-3 places they are hitting, so just hope you see them and the calls and coys will take over from there.
Whack em’!!
