Hope it is ok to post this here. I would think it would be since it is to help protect the waterfowl habitat. I found this petition on another site and wanted to bring it to your attention. Lake Odessa in southern Iowa along the mississippi river has for a long time been controled for duck habitat. Now people along that part of the mississippi want the water levels left higher for boating purposes and they have petitioned whoever makes those decision to keep the lake water level higher. I dont duck hunt but understand the importance of habitat for waterfowl so I signed this petition to keep it the way it is, and that is controled for ducks. I figure there is enough water around for the boaters and they dont need to ruin this habitat to have another place to boat.

The Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge and Odessa Wildlife Area under USFWS and IDNR management were established for the protection of migratory birds. The lake was funded and developed by the USFWS and IDNR to enhance migratory bird habitat. That habitat is dependant on the drawdown cycle.
Several million dollars have been spent by these agencies just over the last 10 years for developments such as the inlet and outlet structures designed specifically to manage for migratory birds.
We the undersigned agree that the current management practices including draw downs to encourage growth of moist soil plants, buttonbush and bottomland forest are the proper management of the area and changes to that management would seriously impair the area’s usefulness to waterfowl as well as all the other animals that have come to depend on this area. As well as endangering the influx of hunter dollars into the local communities.
