hey everyone. i just got my goose call in. thanks to a litle mix up with scheels all sports in eau clair it took two months exactly for my call to come in. i ordered it dec 23 and got it feb 23rd. i ordered it through scheels cuz i didnt have a credit card to order on line and the didnt have the color i wanted in the store so they had to put a special order in. somehow somethen got screwed up and it took two months. i know i ordered it at a bad time of the year with x mas and jeff still hunting down south, but still. anyways i just have to say this call rocks. i could never blow a regular goose call before this i was just using a big river flute. it took me about 5 minutes to figure it out. its an easy call to blow, sounds great and i am reccomending it to everyone who seriously hunts geese. well worth the 160 bucks!

lol ya thats what i ment. i have just been blowing a stupid flute the past 2 years. i actually sounded pretty good on it but it was geting warn out and you had to blow alot harder to get it to work. decided after buying two highend duck calls this fall that the time has come for a high end goose call. its worth it. you can get so much louder, crisper tones and notes and you can do so much more with the high dollar calls that you can with a molded piece of plastic

So your telling me that if I buy a high priced call that I am going to become a good caller? You were just saying that to be smart right? To me it sounds like you have talked to some of the guys that hunt around my area, cause they must think about the same way that you have just stated and believe me it isn’t true. You don’t just pick up a call and be good at it. I amn’t saying I am a pro by any means and believe me I cann’t call worth a hoot, but that statement was a little far fetched. Believe me I know a few guys that I hunt with that could make that $20 call sound just as good as that $150 call and practice is the main reason for it, not the cost of the call.
Your right that call is awesome and I will have to agree that the amount of air you have to use in that compared to a flute is much greater, but then again that $20 short reed will take a heck of a lot less air as well.
P.S. On your new high end duck calls can you do the flooded mercury call yet??? It is pretty sweet, so if not you should learn how to do it.

March 1, 2005 at 11:29 pm #5967ya i know i just got into this same arguement about fishing with highend rods vs low end rods on a different forum. im just saying that this call is easy to blow compared to other short reeds ive tried to blow. ie the mini mags or tim grounds calls ect. im not saying that i am a expert. but ive gotten to be a pretty good caller from just that stupid flue. ask flick he hunted with me this fall quite a bit. i can do the same notes on this call i just had to figure out how to blow it. so its not like i got this call and learned how to sould like a goose over nite. ne ways i just ment to tell everone that this is a good call. i never ment to get everyones panties in a bunch

March 2, 2005 at 1:54 pm #5970Most people do not know that most of the call manufactures of short reeds start with the Night and Hale clucker gut’s.It is true, the more expensive calls do sound better, but on the lower price calls can sound awesome too. Most people that can make a call sound awesome, know how to shave the reed and tune them.I myself have about $1000.00 in calls ranging from the Knight and Hale Magnum Clucker to Foiles and Grounds calls. The higher end calls definetly sound better, but you do not need them to wack some geese .It is all in what a person wants.Have fun wackin’ and stackin’ this fall!

your right most guy’s don’t know about the guts but then most don’t know that saunders, foiles, zink all learned from the man tim grounds. anyway it’s like a favorite lure if you believe in it you’ll throw it longer. some people like a $7 spinner bait and i think they are nuts when you can throw a .99 reaction bait and get the same results. thats the wonderful thing about opioions everyone has one!nice to hear you like the call and they are a very good call and best of luck this fall!March 2, 2005 at 3:58 pm #346507fish

I knew what you were saying just wanted to give ya a little greef about your statement, cause ya knew if I didn’t then someone else would of.
For the calling…….not to tear down any flute blowers, but no matter what short reed you blow it sounds better then a flute. Just goes back to that old saying “practice makes perfect”.
Callmakr……..welcome aboard.

buckmasterPosts: 776March 2, 2005 at 9:33 pm #5979I have killed my share of geese in my day and believe me you don’t have to be a master caller to get geese. Expecially the city birds, they come in like airplanes at a airport.
If you go to dead duck.com you can hear a few routines…not that you want to do a routine while you are out there, but alteast you will be able to listen to some pros do it.

March 6, 2005 at 4:58 pm #6025Never get rid of your calls!!! (atleast that is what you posted Fish.) Diversity is the best thing to have in your field when there are more than 2 guys blowing a call. It sounded like your huntin’ buddies also blow the SMH. One thing that is not nice is that if you do not tune your own calls the sounds are pretty similar. So having two completely different calls in the field is better than having the “Favorite” call the only one out there. The best call, in my opinion, is the Big River to be toting around while ANY other short reed(s) are being blown. Diversity is key when hunting geese!!!
