Has anyone been out scoutin’ for the opener??? Obviously the SE opens next weekend, but for the rest of the state what does everyone think about what will happen?? I think that it will be a slaughter. There will be a ton of birds (both mallards and canadas) around that haven’t even seen decoys yet. I was going to head due-north to Fergus, but it turns out my buddy got permission on a triple-secret field in the lower half of the state so we are going to stay more to the south.

The Canadas are really starting to stack up in Rochester right now, every piece of water around town that is not frozen has some serious number of birds.

    Good luck to everyone!

I can’t wait for some late goose action . The ducks are still given us the big “FU” ……so it’ll be nice to get a little change of pace. I plan on huntin at least 5 out of the 9 days this year.

We also hope to experiment with a little different type of hunting this year……We’ll be strayin away from the same old feild setup everyday

Hey Lars (or anyone else for that matter),

What’s the latest? You still have snow left up there? I assume most of the water is still open . Have ya been seeing geese movin out of town, or are they still hangin on to the golf course and the college?

Oh there are a ton big canadas around, just went for a drive today and found thousands upon thousands in the fields in EVERY direction of town and the majority I would say are flying out of the ‘fuge. Now the big question is if a guy could get permission on one of the fields being used by these monsters, or if guides have some locked up or not, I don’t really know for sure. Just about all of the water is open right now, if it is not it should open today with the “wintery mix” and warm temps. I went south, west and north and tomorrow I will see if there are any birds on shady, unless someone posts otherwise, but there are some serious numbers in the area right now Friday could be a sick day/slaughter for this guy. I know this is “too little too late” but there are also a lot of mallards around right now–perfect timing .

Other than that there should be a lot of competition out there this weekend so don’t be afraid to try out some different set-ups for the weekend, especially after sat. or sun. when the birds may start to get their wits back.
