I agree and wish the late season would include the holiday too. My 13 y/o just got his first goose two nights ago after school. Would love to spend some more time doing that with him

I agree with you guys totally. In WI I don’t understand why the Northern/Southern Zones stay open longer then the Mississippi Sub Zone. Do they think the birds have moved out or the river is froze up? I guess if we ever got a true winter like 3-4 years ago, then there would be no need to keep the season open longer. That wasn’t really even a TRUE winter either, it was just a winter. Just don’t understand there thinking.
In a waterfowler’s perfect world, this is how it would go:
Time:
A guy would be able to shoot from when he could see till when he could not see. I mean we all know how those ducks pile in right after season is closed at night. Bam…bam…bamLimit:
Guess as long as we can shoot all day long, might as well be able to kill as many birds as a guy feels like or can in a day. Knock em’ dead!!!!Shot:
If we are killing off as many birds in a day as we want, then might as well be able to shoot lead. This way if we don’t kill them all, then the lead poisoning should or atleast thin them out.Use of motor:
I also think it would be great if a guy could get his 200 hp Mercury 4-stroke out of the garage and race up and down thru the refuges blazing away (w/ lead if you want) and hunt that way. I think if a guy gets a dozen or so of his buddies and there boats they could really make a killing.Season:
I guess might as well run it from 4th or July all the way to St. Patrick’s Day. Think this should give everyone the right amount of time to put a few ducks/geese in the freezer.Calling:
You can use electronic calls if you want, but with guys racing around in boats blazing them down I don’t see what good they will do.Oh, I almost forgot…..no need for a license and you can hunt in any state.
I think if we did this for 4-5 years, we should pretty much have the waterfowl population cleaned out. Boy, would it be fun though.
What ever happened to hunting weekends, nights, morning or whenever one can? What happened to scouting in the off season, so that when it comes to hunting time a guy has a bead on some birds? Why wait for the birds to come to you, drive 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 even 9 hours to where the birds are and knock em’ dead for a weekend.
Not trying to rip on anyone or sound like a jack @#$ (I am sure I did though), but they make laws for a reason and very…very….very….very…..very few people know why. I would say bird population, habitat and safety play a big role. I just want to be able to hunt when I am 80 years old.
I know it is going to cost me an arm and a leg to hunt by then, but this is something that I love to do and hope to share it with my kids and there kids.
I KNOW IT IS FRUSTERATING AT TIMES, BUT IF YOU JUST ENJOY KILLING THINGS THERE IS PLENTY TO HUNT RIGHT NOW…
Good luck to everyone….hope no one took it the wrong way.
P.S. Just wondering if anything good came out of this season? I had a decent season. I have had better don’t get me wrong, but I am sure it could of been worse.
