Duck Counts….

My brother and I hunted Pope County, MN for ducks on Sat. and Sun. One shot for both mornings …..and we hunted in our best location! Sun. we saw a few more birds flying around but there were no shots looming from us or the countryside – anywhere. On a finer note, while bowhunting Fri. and Sat. nights, I filled mine and my brothers tags with a very fine spike buck (body size) and then a dandy 10 pointer. It’s the first time grunting and rattling worked for me. We saw a lot of other bucks too. …..Great bowhunting season! Maybe next weekend will bring more birds down though….. It’s got to happen soon. Good hunt’in!! Splitshot

I only hunt the wilcox area since our place is on the water there, but there should be some more ducks around. Most Mn duckers hunt the Wisconsin side. I guess next year I might have to do that since there is more water to hunt there. Anyone else been hunting the wilcox area? I know one of these days they are gonna pour in. Crossing my fingers atleast.

buckmasterPosts: 776November 2, 2004 at 7:06 pm #4189Starting to see a few divers move in the area as of last weekend. I would agree with Moss that the mallards we are seeing are just MN birds, starting to make there way down. When a guy starts shooting lesser size mallys then the northern birds are around. I am no expert myself, but we haven’t had a winter for the last 3-4 years to make the birds start there migration early. I remember about 3 years ago on opening weekend we had snow falling from the sky and that ealry snow really made for a great duck hunting season. I see the farmers almanac is saying we are suppose to have a good winter, but I just hope it shows up sooner than later.
