Thur I had a good morning with mallards, woodies and shovelers all decoying well. It was the first time I bagged a shoveler. I only wish it had better colors, would have been neat to mount. This morning only 3 ducks fly by all out of range. Feast or famine I guess. I took a drive through Carlos Avery and saw a few woodies and mallards flying, but no huge flocks. I hope this front might push down a few birds.

I was up in Bemidji over the weekend but heard from a friend that Carlos was an absolute zoo. Multiple Asiatic hunters were using spinning wing dekes, a couple of groups of guys shot at about 6:00 am on Sat., somebody took the steel rain and ended up going to the hospital to have pellets removed, and there weren’t a whole lot of ducks to be had. I love Carlos, it is an amazing management area, but things are just getting way out of control out there. I used to go sit on the firing line along the refuge for 45 minutes before work, now with all the skybusting that goes on it just isn’t worth it. Thankfully I have a couple of spots in East Bethel that are a little too much work to hunt for those sportsmen that are under 5 feet tall.

I hear what you are saying on Carlos. I don’t hunt it anymore either, but nearby in a few areas. I like to drive through and see when the big flocks show up. When they do, hold on!!!
