O.K. I can’t stand it any longer, who is ready to go for the weekend I think this is going to be one of the longest weeks of the year, besides the week before gun-deer. Hoping to be one of the best years. Talked to some friends who have hunted IA and MN and there seems to still be some birds around. Good luck to everyone

I hear ya WS, thought about taking the week off just to prep myself, but thought with nothing to do, I’d just get more impatient. You’re right….going to be a long one. Hope some birds are around, cool this morning. Talked to a couple of buddies that live up north, and they’ve still been seeing quite a few teal so a little of that cool north breeze this week and they’ll be moving on (down to us). Hope they stick around for some blasting this weekend. Good luck all (on surviving the week).

buckmasterPosts: 776September 27, 2004 at 5:23 pm #3584Well peeps….only 119 hours 30 min. and 28 seconds left until I am able to kill my 1st mallard drake of the season. That is if I did my math right. If I can make it thru the work day, I know the night will fly by. Have plenty of things to do to get ready and only so little time. Talk about pumped????? Was out over the weekend doing a little scouting at my spots and I kid you not I could of been done in 5 min. Was touching up my blind at first light on Sunday and I had a good 50+ mallys land in and probably 30+ teal. If that doesn’t pump a guy up I am not sure what does. Guess that only leaves one thing left to do. Just WAIT!!

September 27, 2004 at 6:13 pm #3589Jeweler, I also hunt with a dog, she is a 2 yr old black lab. But sometimes she tends to have a mind of her own and makes me want to some of the time. Might have to try a shock collar one of these days the way she has been lately. Seems like she all of the sudden just got a mind of her own. We’ll see how she does this weekend, can’t wait

September 27, 2004 at 11:29 pm #3602I am going with a co-worker for the first time this year. I am not sure how it will be since I don’t know what to expect . I bought some chest waders and all the tags this past weekend. Now I still need to get shells and wait for the opener.

Once you go you will be hooked for life. Might take a couple times of going out before you really get the feel of it, but once you have 100+ mallard drakes on top of you there isn’t a better feeling. I guess the feeling would kind of be like your quote… Good luck hunting to all and 96 hours until the blasting begins.

September 28, 2004 at 7:36 pm #3621AM,
I would agree with BM. You will want to quit work and hunt waterfowl all the time. Nothing compares to it! Check out the Winchester steel shot with a rebate, makes them really affordable. Good luck!September 28, 2004 at 7:36 pm #322751AM,

Good luck!October 1, 2004 at 3:09 pm #3640tick-tock, tick-tock. Boy, in 24 hours I’ll have the grill fired up and will be swating nats out of my face (maybe not with this cold front but it almost goes hand-in-hand with the opener). I’ll be in the blind, telling stories, chewing tobbacco, and reminising about two years ago when we limited out in 30 minutes……tick tock tick tock, can the time go any slower?

October 1, 2004 at 4:17 pm #3641The weather forecast has me bumming. I like cold weather for duck hunting, but not for sitting from 5:30 am until noon doing nothing.
Damn noon opener is the dumbest thing in the world.

October 1, 2004 at 5:19 pm #3645Hey Moss,
I like the noon opener, but I think it’s just for tradition, not for shooting ducks. I never expect too much from an opener cause generally they are unsuccessful weekends for killing ducks. Another reason that I like the noon opener, and let me know if this doesn’t make sense. Opening weekend and generally the second weekend the local marshes are generally packed with the “duck hunters” as they would call themselves, you know the guys I am talking about (city boys who make their once/twice a year trip to the river to duck hunt). A noon opener is good for these guys because otherwise they’d get lost in the dark and never make it to their spot . Fortunately enough, I know my way around the marsh. I always enjoy a thick fog on sunday opener, watching the boats do circles less than 50 yards from the landing. As for the teal, a couple of buddies of mine from the north said they have been seeing lots of teal, maybe they aren’t on the move yet, but the “High of 60” for the weekend will surely get them on the move. Good luck to all….cut’em.October 1, 2004 at 5:19 pm #323035Hey Moss,

We have to be at our spot, minimum, by normal legal shooting time (6:30), often times at least an hour earlier. That means we get minimum of 6 hours time with our thumbs firmly planted in our rear (aside from watching the morning flight for a half hour or so. The only other activity is trying to fend off other parties who show up later, whcih is always fun). At least if we had an 8 or 9 opener, it would be less thumb-in-butt time. I don’t think it would affect the kill in the least, and I am fine with that. Not to mention tomorrow morning 6 or more hours with squat to do will be COLD!!!!!
PS, if my posts sound a little crabby today, I have been sick all week, another reason the sit in the cold is not too appealing today!
