water levels are up a bit from most of the summer, but not to the point of being over any banks. You should have no problems gettin around.

Took a ride around the swamp last night with my buddy (and his Pro-Drive )……we found some ducks. Lots of woodies and a few mallards. But what really scares me is we didn’t see a single teal!!! Not sure what the deal is there .

we also saw quite a few other guys out scoutin. Lets just say I’m glad we’ve got a secert spot to hunt opening weekend .

Well….maybe it’s not a “Secret” per say……but we’ll have the spot all to ourselves with no other azz-clowns settin up 50yds from us .

last night was my first experince with the prodrives……these things are absoloutly ridicolously incredible. We drove through places you couldn’t push pole a canoe through. one spot that wasn’t even water, it was more like wet mud……NO PROBLEM!!! Trees and Logs, we’d go right over em…..NO PROBLEM!!! We’d blow through the thickest lilly pad feilds/rice beds on the river……NO PROBLEM!!!

If you haven’t seen these things in action before go to that site above and watch the vidoes. You’ll be impressed.

they are a bit spendy (to say the least)…..I think he said he paid close to $4000

I have seen a few of them around and wonder how they compare to a go-devil? I would think that you do not have the same amount of leverage with those types of motors because they don’t have that long shaft. Are you able to get out of real shallow mud areas, like less than 6″ pretty easy with them. Probably should start a thread about the them.

From the guys I’ve talked to that have driven them, they are light years better than a go devil. They say you just sit and drive them like an outboard and go almost everywhere.

I wonder how they are at getting out of a spot that is real shallow though. With the go-devil you have a lot of leverage to really dig in and get going with those things it doesn’t look like you have anything to really get any leverage to get out of real shallow situations. I guess I just need to take a ride in one and see how they handle.

I thought about purchasing one, really reasearched the pro-drive and personally a go-devil is better suited for what I do. Waterswat, you are exactally correct, The advatange a long-tail has over the pro drive is leverage. Yes you have to stand up to drive it, but you can turn the boat as well as get out of a mud-hole. I’ve watched several video’s (mud-buddy, pro-drive) for these types of motors and never once do they show the prodrive style starting in shallow water. Not only that you have no way of turning yourself around because it has no reverse whereas the go-devil you can use the tail as a paddle…..And lastly the price…hmmmm. You can buy a 23 go-devil and a 25 merc. for the same price, just makes more sense to me.

How do the boat speeds compare between the biggest go-devil and the pro drive?

Also, what is the go-devil prices these days?

Not to start a war, but I will be willing to put my go-devil to a test with anyone who has a pro-drive. Mine is only a 23hp Briggs though. They make new twin 31 hp and that would be a sight for me to see. 1 main problem is all I have with the pro-drive compared to a go-devil.

    1. Want to race to the hot spot that late winter morning that everyone is wanting and killing the s*#^ out of the ducks???
Solution: Outboard-to shallow of water, but will get you there in a hurry. (Be prepared to push)
pro-drive- not going anywhere for awhile…(snickers???) yeah it will get you to the spot, but 5 min. to late when the go-devil driver is already setting out decoys.
go-devil- not as fast as outboard…but blows pro-drive out of the water and goes thru the same thing as pro-drive.
airboat- would be the ticket…but where/how do you hide them without sticking out like a sore thumb????

Not saying the go-devil is the best, but I would take it over the pro-drive any day.

Pretty bold statement about “LIGHT YEARS BETTER THAN A GO-DEVIL.”

Be willing anytime I am in the area…..just say the words

It was just a general impression I got talking to them. Personally, I don’t know a ton on either motor. Don’t have either either. I would love some more info.

The one thing that worries me is, especially if I get a fast go devil, what’s it like to hit something at 20+MPH standing up in the dark?

On the turn thing. If you were in shallow water, couldn’t you just step out and turn the boat around? In deep water, couldn’t you just crank, the motor to the side like an outboard and spin around? I guess not if the cut was really narrow, deep, and alot of current, but otherwise turing wouldn’t be all that hard I wouldn’t think.

    What are the speeds?

Not trying to ruffle any feathers, just looking for info.

Not if you are going where other people can’t go. If there is 1″ of water and 2′ of mud the last thing I want to do is bail out of the boat and spin it around. Like I said, leverage is key!

First off you have to be real careful if you are not used to driving these types of motors. They will in fact throw you around if you aren’t hanging on. The 31 hp go-devil is a night and day difference than the 23. Way more power. About the turning around thing. The whole object of a mud motor is to get in and out of shallow areas without getting out to push. I hate standing in knee deep mud trying to swing a boat around and then jumping in and not being able to get out. Trust me I have done this many times. I am just curious as to what situations some of you have been in with your pro-drives and how they have responded.
