Pitbull, I know what you’re saying. I use to live to kill ducks but as I put more and more openers under my belt my values changed and I imagine yours will to. There is nothing wrong with blasting ducks, I got a triple on Teal Saturday and I was a happy old fart. Out west it was a slow opener, we limited out on Sat. but Sunday it was almost dead and we could only scratch out 5 ducks by noon when we had to head back. Good luck to all.

“You cann’t eat a sunrise…” Boy, there is a lot of truth to that. I don’t think it will really matter to me personally, killing ducks is always going to be in my blood.
Guess that is why everyone sets different goals.

October 11, 2004 at 3:55 pm #3777I’d like to reduce the numbers of cripples we get this year.
I’m trying a Pattern Master choke. The jury is still out on it. I have to be able to hit a few more birds than I have so far this year. I’m usually better later in the year after I get into the groove and get my swing back.
You could probably chew on this sunset a little.

I have the pattern master and love it to death. I will tell you this, once you get the hang of it you will never go back. Here is a picture of what the pattern master did for me on Sunday morning. Good luck to all.
P.S. Didn’t wreck apiece of meat. Nice pic as well!!!

October 11, 2004 at 5:50 pm #3780Is that a headless Greenwing teel? Did you shoot the head clean off?
Iv’e used the Pattern Master 2 weekends now and plan on hunting this weekend as well. The first weekend we lost 5 ducks. The second weekend my buddy picked up a undertaker waterfoul choke and between the 2 of us and our new chokes we only lost 1 duck.
We only shoot decoying ducks and rarely shoot over 30 yards.
I hope this trend continues.

buckmasterPosts: 776October 11, 2004 at 6:20 pm #3781Yes, that is a headless teal. I will admit it was only a 10 yard shot, but still to blow the head clean off that is pretty impressive I might add. Now the mallard is only hanging by a few threads as well, but he was a 25-30 yard shot.
I agree it has cut down on the amount of lost/crippled birds I have had as well. Little harder to get used to right away, but as proven it will knockem’ dead. Don’t give up on it, takes a little getting used to.
I have a buddy that shot a duck at 10 yards with a modified choke opening weekend. I will show you the difference if I can get the picture.

buckmasterPosts: 776October 11, 2004 at 7:02 pm #3782Difference between a duck shot at 10 yards with a modified choke and a full choke. Ducks pictured in previous post were shot will full choke and the duck pictured here is shot will a modified choke. Any questions. Yes, they are both dead, but the proof lives on..
Tighter patterns means less cripples.

October 11, 2004 at 7:44 pm #3785Sure looks like a bluewing teal to me.
Mine only usually look like that after a “bit too rough” of a “twist the neck dispatching” session. My cousin shot a woodie at 10 yards opener and the head was still on.

buckmasterPosts: 776October 11, 2004 at 8:10 pm #3787Was he using a modified choke or did he even hit it in the head??? Proven fact right there Mossboss. Learn to shoot like me and you will not have to worry about twisting the neck. Shoot to kill, not to wound.

October 12, 2004 at 1:57 pm #3795Gotta love patternmaster! Only problem that I have seen with them or should I say heard (other than the initial getting used to such a tight pattern), is how much louder they are. My buddy shot one near my head on a zipping teal opener and I still can’t hear. What? What did you say????? See what I mean.

October 13, 2004 at 3:33 pm #3836LOL, I’ll work on my head shot for next season.
Imp. Cyl. I think, blew the bill and both eyes out, but it wasn’t totally hamburgered.
If you knock em all dead on arrival when they hit ground, I guess you are a better shot than anyone I’ve ever hunted with. Don’t think I’ll ever get to that level. Sometimes they just take alot of pellets and still can stay alive for a while.
PS< I was just kidding on the picture, I wasn’t doubting that you actually did it.
