So who is ready for the opener of the Iowa duck season this weekend or who is taking a youngster out for the youth duck season in WI. With both things going on it should keep the birds moving quite a bit. I also heard there is a couple bass tournaments out of Lansing, IA this weekend too. Now make sure everyone gets along nicely fella’s

I have to wait one more year until I can take the neighbor kid out hunting, but I guess I didn’t realize the MN youth was this weekend too. Birds should really stay moving with all 3 states banging away

Taking my youngster out this weekend to try and kill a few birds. Just glad I am not going to be in the Lansing area. I don’t care how friendly everyone is duck hunters and bass fisherman just don’t get along. Hope everything goes fine down there.

Well, the boy didn’t do to bad for his 1st time. He ended up with 5 birds total on Sat. and 3 on Sunday. Probably could of had more, but he went thru 4 boxes of shells in a couple hours so we had to come in. All in all it was a great weekend to be out blasting.

Jeweler, never heard of such a thing up there, seems like people park all over and never had a problem before. I would likely fight over that one. Did you see a lot of others with tickets on their vehicles? Buckmaster, looks like dad should not be giving the boy lessons to shoot

Was out this weekend for the IA opener (desoto bay area). It was an average opener and I think we ended up with about 10 or so. We saw an average amount of teal, but it seemed like the wood duck count was low compared to previous years. Similar numbers for Mallys as well. Drove down by the landing in Lansing, saw that the game warden was slapping tickets on every car that was parked on the one side. WOW, 150$, that’s a hefty ticket, I don’t think tickets are that much for parking in a handi-cap stall. WOW, makes for an expensive duck hunt if you have to pay a 150$ launch fee (hope he was in the luxury parking area)!

Boy….by the sounds of it I guess they can do it. I guess if that is state owned property then you cann’t have any motorized vechical on there land unless it is noted. But, if they were just parked on the grass by the landing then that is pretty pathetic of them to do that. Guess, they have a little power and some of them take full advantage of it. Sorry to hear about whomever got a nasty $150 ticket.

    Thanks for the warning though.

Yup, they were giving them out like candy damn near, at least one day. The other day, they did not give any out. Whats with that. Anyway. BM, sounds like the youngster should take some shooting lessons from others around the area. Do you get him out and shoot much? Best thing for a kid is too shoot. I am not talking Nintendo either. Get him out there.

    Jeweler,

I did manage to get him out one time to shoot some clays, but with it being summer things are rough man. Have vacations, fishing, swimming, baseball, ect… I have a hard enought time finding time to see him. At that age where he doesn’t want to really hang around with dad ya know. We have plenty more days of hunting to go.
