Just wondering if anyone uses Hevi-shot on geese? I’ve heard some amazing stories about the stuff, but wanted to know if it’s for real or just hype.
Thanks!

I would say it is for real. I personally don’t use it because of the cost. But a couple of the guys I was goose hunting with this weekend were using it and they love it. They actually reload it. But like anything you will probably need to pattern it so you are getting the most out of the shot. The only fall back in my opinion is the price or else I would definetly have it in my pouch.

This stuff is amazing. Like Waterswat mentioned if you can afford it, there is no doubt in my mind it works. I have used a couple boxes myself and have found that not only have I killed geese, I have crushed geese. Shoot alot of hot reloads myself, but when you hear them hitting the geese and they are still flying you know something isn’t right. Not with hevi-shot. No bouncing off, this stuff is deadly. I shot 3″ 12ga. BB hevi-shot with a full choke and will always have a box in the waterfowl bag for the geese. That is my 2 cents worth.

I have used heavy shot for several years. I use 3″ #4 for geese and 3″ #6 for ducks. It is expensive, but worth it. When you hit them with hevi shot they die. I can’t tell you how many times I have finished of cripples that were flying away after my buddies had hit them with steel. I think they were using the cheaper steel though, not the new faststeel. Just this weekend I finished off two geese that had been crippled by two different hunting partners. To relieve some of the price shock I buy one box everytime I go to Cabelas throughout the year. $17 here, $18 there….doesn’t hurt so bad. When the season rolls around I have plenty to last me the entire season.

Thanks Guys! I think I’m gonna get some here real soon. Thanks for all of the input. Rather hear it from you all than some guy at a store.
