THOSE THAT HAVE SHOT MODERATE AMOUNTS OF TUNGSTUNG NOTICE ANY WEAR ON YOUR CHOKE TUBES OR BARRELS?

…I haven’t had any problems personally because I rarely shoot it (mostly for the occasional goose). But I know people that shoot that stuff religiously and yes they have noticable wear. My theory: Since it is harder than steel, and generally has at least a 1/2 oz of shot more per shell, you’re trying to stuff that much more shot out of your choke at one time. The guys that I know have had a hard time getting their chokes out and wouldn’t recomend shooting a full choke with it either. Well there’s my 2 cents.

HAVE YOU SEEN ANY ONE MARKETING SAY A SCREW IN CHOKE THATS BEEN HEAT TREATED TO HANDLE TUNGSTUNG?

No I haven’t seen anyone on the market with a heat treated choke tube to handle the new non-tox stuff. I guess that’s how you can make your million. ha. No, seriously, they generally make the choke tubes of a “less” hardened steel because if someone were to screw in a choke cross threaded then the chokes threads will go to crap rather than the barrels threads

Hevi-Shot, like most non-tox is made from a mixture of tungsten, nickel and steel (that’s why the price is high and won’t come down…raw materials). I have shot some hevi and also reloaded it, but have never heard or seen that it has plastic in it. If you’ve ever looked at it (the shot) you notice rarely do you find a perfectly round peice of shot….doesn’t make sense to me why it would pattern better. Anyways, I hate to sit in here and bad mouth the non-tox, simply because if I had money to burn, I’d probably be shooting it all the time. Also, I was reading some reviews that claim that you shouldn’t have any problem with shooting high volumes and barrel wear. My advise is, keep an eye on your choke (make sure it isn’t too tight). Two of my buddies now shoot Benelli’s that are “fixed” choke because of it….12 more days (early goose)
