I will be out, I skipped all of last year after hunting 40 plus days the previous 10 seasons. Got sick of the grind of public hunting and having to get up at 2 am to get a decent spot. Friend secured a slough in western MN so I will be out there. I used to not be able to sleep before a duck opener. This year I will be thinking of the bucks that started to show up and missing my deer stand. Should be a good time and hopefully I shoot a few for some fresh teal poppers Saturday afternoon.
September 21, 2020 at 3:18 pm #1974242This guy of course! Totes are packed and ready. Finally, it seems the water levels are manageable out in Western MN.
Didn’t even bother buying my archery tag, Waterfowl has my whole heart this season. Bring it on.
AnotherFishermanPosts: 609September 21, 2020 at 4:00 pm #1974285Merican Eagle, I can confirm water levels are manageable. I was out this weekend for archery opener. Smaller areas with water in previous years have dried up. Access should be good this season! Good luck everyone
September 21, 2020 at 4:01 pm #1974286This guy!!! Getting done with work at noon friday to get the truck all packed and head to camp, (30min drive there ) get the boat in the water and go for a cruise around the lake, have a fire, play beanbags, have some drinks, go to bed late and be back on the water by probably 3, just to have some jackwagon come strolling in with about 45min before shooting time … Look forward to this weekend every year. Water is way low this year so it will be interesting, but it sounds like there is a good amount of teal around there so we should get some shootin.
September 23, 2020 at 1:43 pm #1974869I will be out with a group just north of Longville, we scouted a couple lakes and have no idea how many people hunt it so who knows. Heading up noon Friday to have Ribeye and some cold bevs.
fishmantimPosts: 143September 23, 2020 at 1:51 pm #1974875Heck yeah! Ready to try out the new Beavertail Blind..will be grassing it up tomorrow.
September 23, 2020 at 2:23 pm #1974886My 4 year old daughter wants to go. Have to see if I can get a second boat ready in time. Dont wanna take her with grandpa just in case she wants to leave 10 minutes after we start.
September 23, 2020 at 2:40 pm #1974889I won’t be out and haven’t been in years, but good luck to those of you who are out. I’m jealous of everything, except how warm it will be.
deertrackerPosts: 9237September 23, 2020 at 2:56 pm #1974897We already had target practice with early goose. Friend Katie and her boyfriend came out had her first experience and dumped a couple

September 23, 2020 at 8:51 pm #1974966I’m jealous of you Minnesotans for once. One more week of chasing what little amount of geese we have. It’ll be interesting chasing ducks on the river this year with how low the water is.
September 24, 2020 at 5:55 pm #1975155Nice work guys. Good luck to everyone! We have 3 generations going this year including a 12 yr old first timer (my buddy’s kid). Getting packed up tonight and heading out in the morning with the camper to set up duck camp.
steelslinger71Posts: 167September 25, 2020 at 6:37 am #1975218I will definitely be out. We are way, way dry down here in the sw corner. Many of of our sloughs are dry or mud flats. Going to be a struggle but this year would make fifty seven in a row.
tornadochaserPosts: 756September 25, 2020 at 7:24 am #1975222SD opener. Looking like a field goose hunt with some bonus wood ducks is on the agenda for tomorrow morning.
September 25, 2020 at 9:29 am #1975251Hoping the sloughs will have enough water to float a Kayak, not fun walking in mud 1/2 mile…Quite a bit different than last year when the 4′ Texas rigs wouldn’t even grab…
MNdrifterPosts: 1671September 25, 2020 at 8:46 pm #1975422Nope, gotta work Saturdays. Sunday is my son’s confirmation. Maybe Monday…. it’ll be cooler and north winds anyway.

I feel a sniffle coming on.
September 26, 2020 at 5:21 pm #1975519The only sniffle I’ll have is the one from a runny nose Monday morning out in the chill. Seems to be runny more often once I got 45 and older.
ClownColorInactiveThe Back 40Posts: 1955September 26, 2020 at 6:24 pm #1975521Most in our group got their limit! Mix of teals and mallards, pretty action packed out west. Didn’t see a lot of geese…
MNdrifterPosts: 1671September 26, 2020 at 7:16 pm #1975528Never fired a shot. Lots of birds dumped into my neighbors side of the pond. Mostly all mallards. Me and the boy snuck over there to check it out. HUNDREDS of mallards in the tall reeds. Reeds so thick I worry about jump shooting it and finding all the birds since I don’t have a dog. Texted said neighbor asking permission to hunt it tomorrow, thinking I could maybe do some pass shooting on their way in there. He said no, his son in law is bow hunting the woods next to it. ☹️
steelslinger71Posts: 167September 26, 2020 at 8:47 pm #1975533Terrible opener for us. Four of us shot four ducks. Ducks around but water was to low to get to them. Putting plan B into action tomorrow.
MNdrifterPosts: 1671September 27, 2020 at 11:30 am #1975587Much better today. The wind helped us immensely!

ClownColorInactiveThe Back 40Posts: 1955September 27, 2020 at 4:21 pm #1975637Plenty of opportunities on Sunday but we had trouble hitting anything, went through almost a box for 3 ducks..lol. Those teal were booking in the wind.

Nice mixed bag there!
Even better that you had the young Lad’s out with ya! Great to see.Justin riegelPosts: 936September 28, 2020 at 10:39 am #1975757Birds were pretty thick in western MN. We were done in 24 minutes on opener. 2nd day 2 of the guys had too much time on Saturday and didn’t make it Sunday. Less birds for sure on Sunday flying as usual. We knocked down 10 before calling it.

September 28, 2020 at 1:54 pm #1975797Good opener for us. My uncle and I limited out Saturday morning in less than an hour. Sunday was slower as usual but still shot 7 ducks and a goose. The rest of our group did pretty good also with plenty of opportunities. Here’s my dog with some “war paint” on her face
