Looks like the opener water temp will be good for fishing.
The water level is 681.5 and that is six feet high, the river will be flowing fast.
Good luck fishing.

That will make it easy for getting around north of the high bridge. Might make it a little tough locating some fish but I bet we will find something. Hope the rain this week doesnt bring it up much more.
Safe to assume that crawlers will be your bait of choice?!
I use nightcrawlers for opener. If a cold front is coming in, I will buy minnows.
Crawlers are so easy to transport and keep alive in worm bedding. I have used Buss Bed-Ding for about 15 years.
I get leeches too in a couple weeks though.
This spring is just flying by. I haven’t had time to even try to set out leach traps this year. I’ll try this weekend. Years past I’ve always had pounds of leeches on hand before opener. Leeches can be an awesome approach casting or pulling.
What’s the best way to fish st criox this sat? Jig? Troll? Swimbaits? I’ve always gone to the prescott area for st criox opener but wanted to try different area this year. Will be fishing from boat launching out of Hudson. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. Have fun this weekend.
Good luck this weekend boys!!!!! I wont be out there for opener but I plan to start fishing by next week after work when I can. I need my yearly spring Croix Gold meal!
Water temp went from 54.5 on april 26th to 48 where we are sitting right now. That cant be good……
On a side note, I haven’t spent much time fishing north of Stillwater and was thinking I might start up there on Saturday. I thought I read somewhere that north of the boom site was off limits to fishing is this true?
Entire river is open to fishing.
How far north can I go with a 19.5ft boat and still be safe.

If you launch from Hudson or Stillwater, not far. High bridge is the legal limit. To fish further upstream you must launch up there.

I’m not following you….what do you mean high bridge is the legal limit?
I was just down at Hudson’s main launch and it is closed and the dock is on shore in the lot. It does not appear that it will open by tomorrow.

You are mixing two different questions here, unknowingly. The entire river is open to fishing as Mike stated. However, you cannot boat from the Stillwater area to north of the high bridge.
So the high bridge becomes the legal boundary as once you go north of it, you cannot legally come back south of it.
Make sense?

If you are north, you can boat south past the bridge. You can’t go north past the bridge.

Why is this rule in place, doesnt make any sense to me.
It’s an early invasive species rule to protect the clams upriver from zebra mussels.

Got it. So my next questions is if I launch north of the High bridge is the water safe enough for a 19.5 ft boat (not to shallow)
