No, I steer well clear of armed psychopaths out harassing people fishing. Mostly I have been working trying to try to pay their salary that they take from me under similar threats. But I do a lot of lurking here trying to figure out where/how to catch mid-summer river walleye. No easy feat!

Just be glad your first post wasnt a video )

I also understand the vast majority of these water Patrol boats are not officers.

I can’t say for Dakota County but Peirce and Goodhue County’s this is not true. Both County Water Patrols have spent time with me answering my questions.

I miss my free DQ card though.

PS I’m all in favor of “armed psychopaths” that will pull me out of the water if I was drowning…if they like me or not.

Reminds me of when I lived in Wisconsin, had my ten year old drive our boat with the 220 hp I/O up & down the St croix. I’d be seated in the rear seat, wife in the other and we’d each have a cold one. Boat cops would come up to our boat and ask for all my papers and ask how many bears I’d had today…….loved telling them to ask the 10 yr old , he’s driving. They’d always get a dumb look on their face and ask me again. I’d have the kid pull out the boating regs that said we were legal with the kid driving. Good day!

Also the no wake warning from boat cops who had no idea that a wave at the rear of the boat did not constitute a violation of “no wake”……the whole part about driving at a speed no faster than necessary to maintain the ability to steer/control the boat was more the definition I’ve always known, a lot different than what those wannabes were trying to enforce.

Yikes…having your 10 year being the responsible party? Putting that “child” on the spot? Whatever…I just see something wrong with the picture of a 10 year old driving the boat while mom and dad sit back drinking beer. Guess you got a good laugh though.

As much as I enjoy drinking beer, I never have it in the boat anymore, particularly with my grandkids along.

Enjoy it with the boat tied up at the dock or already parked on the trailer while no one’s driving anything anymore.

FYI Andy, it’s not legal in MN waters for a ten year old to pilot a boat that large even with an adult on board. In WI waters they can legally.

Personally, it wouldn’t bother me none if alcohol was banned from boats altogether. But I generally get into trouble when I start telling people what they should do even when I feel it’s only common sense.

Did the kid drive the truck home as well…?

Just busting balls as I’m sure you weren’t getting blasted or anything Tom. Just raised my eyebrows a bit.

I’ve got a strict two beer max on the river & only when I am anchored or someone else is driving. I knew I’d get their attention with my 10 yr old (with the biggest 80’s Rock hair you ever saw) chauffeuring us.

Never had a fishing or boating violation in the 4 boats I’ve owned, over 30+ years. I’m not a rule breaker, just like to mess with people every chance I get. The boat patrols hovering St croix/miss at Prescott were just too easy. Drooling every time they spot a beer in a boat.

I’m the guy who finds himself in an elevator full of cops recently and I tell them my favorite cop joke…….what do all cops and firemen have in common? ……..they all wanted to be firemen when they were little boys !

Bk – I respect your position & alternatively I see no reason why I can’t have a can of beer while driving home in my truck. No possible way I could be impaired from one can of beer.

Each person is different Thomas. That’s a given and since I don’t know you or all the other people reading this site, I can’t speak for you or them.

I can say about 15 years ago (before I was guiding) I had a beer roughly a hour before heading the 10 miles to the launch in the dark. It was that night I realized how slow my reaction time was with only the one beer. I was shocked! I haven’t touched one in a vessel when I’ve been in charge since.

Each person has a different weight and metabolism. One beer will make one person goofy and the next won’t notice it. Heck, I know this one gal that can sniff a cap and she’s had too much it seems!

I don’t use my clean boating record as proof of anything. Reason? I’ve done some pretty dumb things without getting a ticket. Like the day I blew through the No Wake Zone at Colville Park and when I got to the end thought that was the start of it. doah <statute of limitations invoked here>

Anyway, not accusing you of anything Thomas…and I’ve been known to mess with those folks in other ways as well.

Reminds me of the time I approached a hottie officer, brushed her buttons lightly, getting her to look down as if something is on her uniform and said, “looks like you spilt georgeous all over” lol.

Could’ve gone two ways, I didn’t end up in jail )

I have a 3 beer limit on the river and the 3rd one is reserved for the wait at the loading ramp.

Reminds me of my buddy and his famous inappropriate jokes he’d get away with….

While getting checked for a hernia with his long time family Doctor….. Doc says “turn your head and cough” as he is ready to check for the hernia…….my buddy Terry says “ok doc, hang on just a minute”…. “Hey Doc, mind if I just run my fingers thru your hair, so this isn’t weird” …..

Be glad you weren’t back trolling. That would have been a conversation for the record books.
Did you wave with your port or starboard hand?

Note: I am so gratefull for those out there keeping us safe. Just making light of the situation.
