What do you all do when there is 2-4 inches of water on the ice and its fricking cold. How do you keep your flipovers from freezing solid to the ice? I was thinking of putting a couple of pieces of 2x4x6 under the front pole that lays on the ice (water)?? Might be drafty inside but hopefully it won’t freeze to the ice.

If it is warm enough for water ON the ice, you should not need the shack. I suspect you want some wind break but perhaps if you need the shack for that, just move it around every 10-15 minutes and let it settle back into the same place. If I have a portable, no WAY I’m dragging planks around with me.

Just curious how you can have that much unfrozen water on the ice and still be Fricking Cold?

JD, it was not warm weather creating the water, once i drilled the holes the water came up through the holes. The shipping season is still going on and im fishing on the st marys river (in a bay).Whether its under ice waves from the freighters or what i don’t know. When i shoveled the snow off the ice to setup no water on ice. When i left 7 hours later there was at least 3 inches of water all over in my area?? Temps were +2 F with 20 mph winds (fricking cold). As for the wood pieces i should have said 2″ x 4″ x 6″ just to hold the pole up out of the water.

i have the same issue here with my pop up. ill drill a couple holes and the water comes flowing out. i take my heater and let it sit by each corner just before i leave and it comes up quit easily. that’s the only solution i have ever come up with. the one time i didn’t take a heater and the tent froze in the water i had a hell of a time chipping ice with the ice scoop.

Dont shovel the snow away just set up on top of it,should help somewhat. You may end up with alot of slush but it usually wont freeze up as long as you dont try to bank in the skirt.I never shovel down to bare ice when setting up,works for me anyways.
