50 horse tiller Yamaha 4 stroke went to start it up and no water coming out I think it could be the impeller. About how much would it cost to have a shop replace it.

Try running a piece of heavy weed whipper line up the pee stream tube with the engine running. Sometimes weeds and other debris plug the line.

I had the same motor. I would keep a straightened jig with the barb pinched to clear it if the stream wasn’t right. There are you tube videos on how to replace the impellor. Not hard at all.

Mine would sometimes take a while to start peeing in sub-freezing temps. Blowing into the flush fitting after use when draining the motor seemed to alleviate this somewhat.

I would try hooking up a garden hose and flushing the motor to see if it is plugged or is the impellor.

Weed whip line or bottom bouncer up the pee hole before the impeller. But the impeller is easy to do

Thanks I already did the wire trick I even took the hose loose from the engine still nothing. I guess I will get an impeller kit.

    See a doctor?

    Edit:

After reading beyond the title it looks like you were talking about an outboard.

Did you let the motor warm up. Might not see any water flow through until the t-stat opens up.

It has always made water as soon as it started even on the cold mornings.

Is there a garden hose flush attachment on that motor? You may want to see if you can blow out any blockage before taking it apart.

It’s possible the t-stat is stuck closed. You could take it off and test it in how water.

Best way to check the impeller is to try running on a hose with a set of muffs, or assume if you’re not getting an alarm you’re probably ok. If you have good flow out the prop your impeller should be fine. I worked on a 40HP Yamaha earlier this summer that had multiple impellers tried as well as a mechanic taking a air hose, and blowing out the cooling system and still no change. I ended up finding the blockage was in the fuel cooler on the starboard side of the engine. It just looks like a block of Aluminum behind the intake with a few hoses going to it. If you trace out the water flow on the engine it sits between the main portion of the cooling system and the telltale. Without knowing the vintage of your engine I can’t say for sure but it’s worth a look.
