    Hello,

I’m semi-expereinced on the St. Croix btw Kinni and Prescott. Haven’t been there during higher water.
680-681 ft. at Stillwater I guess. Not “no wake”, but a bit high, correct?. Is it worthwhile heading out there?
No kicker motor, just a trolling motor on 17′ fish/ski runabout.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

Well worth going out. If you can get the big motor down close to trolling speeds trolling close to shoreline can be very good 8 to 12 ft. A bucket throwned out the back can slow you down. Don’t forget to attach rope to bucket thats attached to the back of boat. mrgreen

Thanks. Have definitely forgotten to pull in bucket..minnow rodeo.

Me and the FW were fishing and did just this. The moment I turned around to see it bouncing behind the boat at about 35mph it hit a wave just right and sent it sailing right up and over into it’s spot in the splashwell perfectly. Craziest $hit ever.

You haven’t lived until you’ve tried to get on plane with…

    Swim ladder down
    Kicker down
    Trolling motor down
    Anchor down
    Drift sock down
Minnow bucket or poor man’s drift sock

    )

Can’t be perfect until you’ve made every mistake

I haven’t exceeded 3 mph yet, but in the last two weeks somewhere between 2&3 has been there ticket for trolling. Firetiger hot color. JSR 5

Curious to see how the St.Croix will handle the damm break on the tamerack river.

I’ll add one more…..Talon partially down (and yes, the warning buzzer was beeping at me).

One I’m sure everyone has done before you had a livewell was leaving the stringer in. Lost a few fish that way.

Out on the St Croix this week and saw a 50 foot tree with at least a 2 foot diameter (largest end) floating 6 inches under the surface. Only one little branch was visible! Just one more reason a no-wake is a good thing….also makes getting to where you want to go more relaxing!

No matter the time of year or flow there is always risk of not paying close attention.

Even anchored you had better keep an eye up stream.

I’ll take summer logs anyday over winter ice sheets

I followed a tuna boat up the sippi a few miles this weekend. I’m watching the water like a hawk. I started to wonder if these big boats are even paying attention because they don’t Dodge much if anything.
Then I see wood chips and a freshly hit log in this boats wake (that I’m following)… Yeah, they’re just running stuff over )
    Have fun repairing that hull!!

That was easily a 15′ log over 12″ around. Wouldn’t want that in my hull at 30 mph, but they didn’t mind.

Set the cruise control and go pour a drink.

Following a ways behind a cruiser works well. Anything just under water is chewed on by the big guys prop which makes it easier to see.

    LOL!

On Sunday I saw two fishing boats running about 40 mph north of Afton….it looked like a log jam by me….kept waiting for the thump but magically they both made it to the Interstate before I lost sight of them. Some people are just lucky I guess!

Your right, they could’ve hit a log and got a ticket for no wake

Ticket for not following no wake? That would actually require either the WI or MN DNR to be out on the water, they are too busy checking trailers these days.

I have never seen anyone be stopped for not following the no wake when the water is high, or in general for blowing through Afton or Kinni. I wish I would.

or in general for blowing through Afton or Kinni.

Might want to head out there on a 3/4th of July. They do hand out tickets for making a wake in Hudson, Afton, the Kinni and Prescot…

Course it was in 1986 when it cost me $45.00 to learn what NO WAKE meant. coffee

As a reminder (and I don’t know why I’m posting it here), the July 4th weekend has been historically the deadliest weekend on the St Croix. Watch out for the other guy!

Seems like I’ve seen quite a few no waker boaters being pulled over around Hudson and St.paul areas. Always the sheriffs

    Lucky.

    Sheriff’s are thick around Prescott.

Seen plenty of people ticketed from Prescott to Stillwater over the years.

Dnr is a rare sight though.

Interesting, I have been boarded / checked by the coast guard twice in the last 2 years, always by Hudson and never any other place on the croix.

I have heard Prescott is not a place to ignore the no wake also.

The only other time I have seen anybody out there is when I got passed by a sheriff making my way through the no wake by the Kinni.

I am thinking I must fish times of year when they are not out, or the just don’t venture between the Bluffs and Afton all that much.

Dang it is slow at work ……. I wish I was fishing
