I was charging my deep cycle battery after filling with water. I am wondering when I came back to see the battery there was water on the floor. Could that be simply from overfilling the battery or would there be a larger issue?
If you just added water then it seems most likely that it was overfilled. It expands when charged. You only need to cover the plates, not top it off. There might be a fill line on the side, probably about an inch below top.
could very well be from overfilling, a bad battery could also be adding to the problem is the battery hot if it is then more then likely the battery is toast.
Overfilled…get a small plastic syringe and pull the extra water out to the fill line, be careful as the water gets acidic…

Batteries should be filled AFTER charging… as long as there is water barely over the top of the plates. When a batt discharges it sucks the water into the porous lead. When you charge it the water is pushed back out. If you have the water at the fill line and the batt is fairly discharged it WILL push water out of the vents.
Luckily it was not in my boat when charging it. Thanks for the feedback from all of you.
