Found a nice spot to park the pontoon for some swimming on Woman lake and of course had to cast the shoreline a bit with my daughter and BIL and got into some, needless to say we are miserable and seeking any homemade remedies, please!

Got a nice 19″ smallie doing it though, honestly would trade it back to ease the itchiness.

    Brake cleaner!

By the time the burning of the brake cleaner stops you will care less about the scratch of the chigger!

Time. Chiggers are the worst, I got them once while golfing and they infested my Charlie Browns. It was the most miserable 4 days of my life.

I got it the worse, but feel for my 11yr old who doesn’t have as many but are puffier.

Here’s what are legs look like up to our knees, luckily didn’t wade any deeper (

Clear nail polish. Seemed to work for my son.

back when I got them once I used the benadryl spray and was told to take the hottest bath I could stand without burning my self from the hot water. heat kills them and so does cutting off the air to them.

Ran to the pharmacy in town and they had an anti itch lotion, mixed that with some hydrocortisone and smothered legs seemed to work alright at best. Day 3 here is better but still quite annoying.

These things are no joke, just glad no more than 20 yds away where the 3 other younger kids were actually swimming for hours had zero bites. Darn shady vegetative shoreline!!!

The family that camped next to us spent Friday in the water. All came home with a nasty case of chiggers. All the girls, mom included were really covered. I had some stuff that I’d bought for poison ivy that seemed to help a bit. I offered to help the 16-18 yo girls apply it but mom said she’d take care of that for me. ) jerr

You can avoid most by towel drying vigorously after leaving the water. They burrow in as the water evaporates. That’s why sometimes you get them under you waistband only. They are no joke. Terrible experience.

The Iowa DNR had a report on this the end of June. They said it is a parasitic flatworm that burrows into the skin and you should dry off quickly when getting out of the lake. It also says an antihistamine and calamine lotion could be used the treat the affected area. Hope this helps!
