Washing striker bibs/jacket

Anyone ever wash their striker gear? Haven’t even looked at the tag on recommended wash-age. Curious as to how it turned out and what you did…? I have the predator series and fortunately it’s getting a little fishy.

    Chad,

I can honestly say I wash mine frequently. I run them in cold water with a double rinse.

I do not dry them though.

But I have no issues with washing them.

Wash all the time. Dry on very low heat. I had an old pair that boot liner melted somewhat on high dryer heat. Dry on delicate most of the way. I then turn inside out and hang overnight then turn right side out and hang until dry.

Wash mine when they start to smell fishy. Follow the instructions and you’ll have no problems.

I wash all of my gear that is waterproof/water resistant with Nikwax Tech Wash detergent, hang dry, and spray on Nikwax TX Direct waterproofing. Water will bead right off of the fabric like it’s brand new.

Why would you wash them? Where is this so called “fishy” smell coming from?

I washed mine because a NP pooped on my bibs, but never had a fishy smell to them. Guess I need to be around more fish.

A couple years ago I wore my life jacket to work for life jacket awareness day. A few hours into the day and the office ladies asked me to bring my life jacket back out to my car. Apparently it smells like fish! I figured that was a good problem to have and I still have yet to wash it. rotflol

I washed my bibs once because they wreaked so bad I couldn’t sit with myself any longer. I believe it was after a couple days in a row on mille lacs catching tullibees hand over fist. Their slime has a special aroma all its own after a couple days.

The only wash cycle any of my striker climate gear has seen, is rain.

Even worse than Bibs and Jackets after a full season of fishing is Mittens and Gloves. Mine get so bad inside that it often takes several cycles in the washer just to get then part way clean. I don’t think you can ever get the fish smell out of the inside of Mittens or Gloves. I got a pair of heated gloves for Christmas. I’m still debating returning them. As nice as they are I don’t want to use them while ice fishing. I just know there will be no way to get the smell out of the inside of them. No way will they hold up to multiple cycles in the washer.

Bumping this thread up because I Googled how to wash ice Armor. Last weekend I kept wiping my hands on my bibs after releasing and the bibs really smell like fish now.

One of my Google results showed this thread so I looked at it and a lot of the comments made me laugh (Sharon’s life jacket saga!) So hopefully bringing this back is fun for a few people

Can’t wash em it takes the magic off . It’s a good reminder there in the back seat of your truck on a warm day too when they sit in the sun , good fragrance in the cab.

Fall fishing on LOW going through hundreds of frozen shiners a day is the worst. Might as well just burn your jacket and bibs after that. I have no idea how but that smell does not air out no matter how long hang. One fall when we were done fishing we packed all our gear in an action packer to bring back to the cabin and the stuff sat in there for a week. When we got back the following weekend everything in the box stunk just like my gear did. My girlfriend was not happy and promptly ended up buying her a new suit. That stuff still stinks to this day and it’s been hanging in the garage for over a year now. I guess I never thought washing that stuff was even an option.

Last year i forgot a baggie of frozen shiners in my coat pocket. Got home from the trip, threw my gear in the garage and couldn’t figure out the smell for a week. It was awful.
I also look like I just left the titty bar with how many shiner scales I have on my bibs lol

Im just glad my striker bibs have the chamois that detach for washing. My buddies laugh at me, but that is the only thing that stinks and easily washed. I guess who is laughing now?

Shiner scales are the worst. They stick to everything like glue. You get enough on your rod handle everytime you set the hook it looks like a disco ball reflection. doah

They get everywhere when you pinch the head off.

Wash on cold with a delicate setting, hang them in the heated garage under one of the ceiling fans and they’re like new

Yep. Mine get washed in the rain also. Just don’t put them wet in a hot truck and lock it up for a few days. That’s a special smell.
