Hello all, new here. I’m looking for all advice I can get in regards to this fishery. Been dreaming about going here for awhile and it looks like it might happen 3rd week in Nov. Is it a good time to go or am I too late. My dream fish is a brown trout so that’s what we’re after. Planning on trolling huskys. Thx for your help. Heard that the area around the onion and Sioux is ok. Don’t know.

Great fishery. I’ve fished it about a dozen times in the fall. Mid November will still hold the same amount of fish, but on average conditions are worse then compared to early to mid october. Trolling cranks on 15-30 FOW, with lines 5-15 feet down is a good overall rule to follow. Don’t be afraid to vary the depths if you aren’t getting anything. Outside the onion and souix works well; also long island, basswood island, bono creek, houghton pt, sand bay, raspberry bay. Always good to have options depending on the wind.

I was up last weekend; caught about a dozen fish Friday and a dozen fish Saturday. Caught a little bit of everything including browns, coho, steelhead, splake, pike, and bass. Pictured are the 2 biggest browns we got last weekend. I already want to go back!

    Keith:

Welcome to the site!!! Its never too late to fish the big water. It’ll be cold, but what you’re chasing likes it cold too!!! You could start in that area, but I’d probably start on the north side of the harbor in Washburn and wander up toward Houghton Point and start on the 10′ contour with boards and run up and start doing the weave in and out to 30′ to see if anything is still in that close. Also make sure if Lake Trout is back in season or if its still closed. You can run that way all the way to the Souix/Onion area. You may find that you need to be out in the 60′-80′ of water and the next thing I would do is look to see where or if there are any concentrations of boats in the South Channel or towards the Long Point area.

That should give you enough to start with for now, continue to ask questions regarding and I’ll hopefully be on enough to see you posted and get back to answer any questions…

Thx! I’ve been dreaming of catching a brownie forever, pretty much my dream fish right now. Nice fish!
