I am looking at a new Instock warrior 203 with a 250 Suzuki. Will this be under powered? The boat is rated for a 350.

With the shortage of boats. I am very limited if I want to fish yet this summer. My boat sold a lot faster then intended

You would probably be good but I would hate to spend that much money to get something then wish you had a bigger motor. Its a lot cheaper to get the right one the first time.

I’d rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it! I can’t speak for the 203, but I have a 2090. They were rated for 250s but just in the last year or two they got them rated for 300 hp. My next one will have a 250 more than likely. I’ve heard guys getting low to mid 50s with a 250 on a 203. I can get 52-54 in my 2090 with a 225 pro xs.

If it were me and the price was right I wouldn’t hesitate at all. Unless you’re a big tournament fisherman and need it. Or you just like going fast like I do 😎

A friend of mine has a 208 with a 300 Yamaha and he is seeing low 50’s loaded up, and 54 running light. I believe the hulls are the same between the 203 and 208, but the layout is a little different. I wouldn’t expect mid 50’s with a 250. A more realistic would be high 40’s loaded. I think it would perform pretty well, and you wouldn’t be disappointed unless you expected it to hang with a 300 or 350. They are nice boats.

Keep in-mind, there’s nothing worse than fishing from a boat that goes under 55mph. When there’s a tough bite, the fish seem to really prefer the speed and cost associated with a 300 or 350 over a 250 in my experience.

…I wouldn’t hesitate if you’ve test driven the boat and know how it feels. The difference between 5 mph and a slightly better hole shot isn’t worth the cost or fear of missing out on a boat you like.

It is a 20ft glass boat. 250’s were common on the 20ft boats for quite some time. Hell it wasn’t but for a handful of years that a 350 was even an option. I would think a 250 would move that boat fine. Would a 350 be better well Duh! Then you can grunt louder when talking about it with strangers.

I wouldn’t worry a bit about having a 250. My operating style is typically more subdued than most though and I don’t go full throttle for anything and usually run at the max efficiency point, which on my setup is right around 25 mph. I don’t find it necessary to push things harder than that. Sometimes a heavier load requires me to push the speed up to around 30mph to get the boat to a happy place. I want my stuff to last as long as possible and a boat that has capability of taking 350 horse running at 250 should last a good long while. I don’t take pride in how fast or how much power or things like that. My pride comes from owning something a little older or a little higher hours or miles that shows how much I care for it by being in impeccable shape. Just the way I am wired.

Expectations ? This boat works very well with a 250 and was the standard motor for years. High 40s low 50s for speed. Warrior hulls have never been or will be considered a fast calm water boat. But a rough water gem that will not take a back seat to any boat made.

Similar to my WX2100. It has the 250 Yamaha. Works just fine. Usually I run 30-35 mph. Heavy boat loaded about 47 mph with a 4 blade rev 4. Hole shot – no problem
