Steadily been getting worse startups on the 1994 120hp Johnson. Alot of sneezing, gets better when it warms up which was making me dread thinking about the warpage I saw on the carbs when they we’re gone through, cleaned, new kits last year.

Slight warpage everywhere but where the thicker gasket material sat I wasn’t concerned with too much, but where the carbs meets the intake the thin ring just wouldn’t provide much for leak protection.

Piece of 180sand paper, adhered to a flat wood board. Had to remove the side gasket but other than that lay er down, sand smooth nice and slow. You can see from pics how much warpage there was.

Inital startup was solid and has run smoother for today. Will maybe follow up in time to make sure everything is well but glad I took the time to do this.

Have had to do the same thing to different older carbs, only suggestion I have is use glass instead of wood much flatter.

I had a small slab of granite put aside but couldn’t find it. Nor any glass. Sorted through some wood to find the one, but it worked out. I got good wood doah

Had the same problem on my 2002 150 Johnson.

Motor would drop a cylinder at 2500 rpm. Went through almost all the electrical components until I found a forum talking about warped float bowls. Replaces the ones that were leaking.

1500 miles later never an issue.

Give your doctor a call, he fixed my warped Johnson with some meds and an exercise plan. Best part? No sanding…
