I just spent the weekend greasing and getting my cables and winches ready for the winter. Am I glad I did. The pipe in a pipe that my wheelhouse goes up and down on were really rusted. Plus one of the cable pulleys was rusted tight. I had my last house for 10 years and only cleaned them once but this one might not have made it another year. Don’t trust your zerts, it’s easier now than at 30 below and much easier than if they stop working on the lake. A friend just went and bought a 3 year old Ice Castle and the seller couldn’t get it to go down. He did before my friend would buy it but it meant torches and welding. CHECK THEM NOW!

I just went over my Firebrand Fishhouse. Pivots were free, mechanism was good, and all areas are greased with waterproof marine grease.

Was doing some preseason tinkering in my two year old ice castle and had one side that wouldn’t move at all. A lot of cussing, beer, and torch help from the neighbor and couple hours later got it apart. The grease fittings go tight against the axle and will not allow any grease to be inserted. Now both sides are cleaned up and have never seiz on them. Glad i checked it before a two hour trip to the lake this winter.

This is one place where it’s not a matter of the brand of house you have or the quality or manufacturer of your trailer, they are all the same for the most part and zerts are just not effective. If a zert worked your pivot would have to be so loose you wouldn’t pull right or get any mileage out of tires, they need to be fairly tight. Don’t trust your zerts.

I’ve also considered mixing anti-sieze and waterproof marine grease for those pivioting stub axles, not the wheel bearings, those get unadulterated axel grease, but the axel / frame piviots.
