Warm front

New here to the site and ice fishing community in general and had a question about this warm front we have coming in for those of use in the Twin Cities. null How much is it going to affect the ice conditions around the cities such as Bayport, Bald Eagle, Big marine etc etc? Haven’t been around long enough to really observe that and want to get a mindset about the rest of the week and there on. Maybe it will just come down to trusting the local bait shop before each day I head out. Any input would be great, thanks!

The effect should be negligible. The ice is plenty thick to survive this. However, it will be very sloppy on top of the ice. Which might make moving around more of a challenge.

x2, make sure you bring your ice cleats.

I don’t think it’ll hurt the ice, just the snow on top. And once it’s done then it’ll freeze and we’ll end up with more ice from the melted snow waytogo

I agree, just be observant of recently drilled holes and cracks. They act as drains and any water sitting on top of the ice, if it doesn’t freeze, eventually drains into those areas and erodes the ice away fairly quickly. An 8inch hole can turn into a 2foot hole in as little as a few hours. Mostly happens after a rainfall, but a sudden melt can do it as well.

    Good luck!!

I’m going to get the boat out of storage. I’m very confident this will destroy all of the ice. I’ll be dropping jigs for walleyes by next Monday.

    Is it falling already?
