    Hello!

Used to ice fish Wappogasset and Big Round when I was a kid (45 years ago!) I would like to try them again this year. If I remember, we fished pine bay (??) on Wappi early in the season. I have not been over that way in years. Is the ice fishing still good?

I get up there a few times each winter. I usually do well fishing for panfish.

I frequent Wapo in the summer and winter but more so in the winter. It seems the community hole is most likely the bay your talking about on the north end of the lake where crappie is the species of choice. 5-8 FOW in the weeds is targeted by most of Wapo’s ice angler’s after the 8-10″ crappies (average). I on the otherhand like to go after Wapo’s other treasures as pictured below. I like the sumo perch and the big white/striped bass. I also know there is walleye in Wapo though in very low numbers. I have yet to get a walleye through the ice out there…..must be why I go out there so much, I keep trying to get that elusive walleye but all the while catching big perch and white bass (all pics are from Wapo)

When I fished Wappi as a kid, my uncle caught a big brown trout on a tip up. That was pretty cool! I need to find my way back up there!

We had a cabin on Big Round but never had much luck there through the ice.
