Panfish was the game tonight and we did well but did get a couple surprises too. Dad and I headed out to one of our favorite spots and got out there around 5pm. A little warm but okay. The weeds we were expecting to see were not as we expected to see them and we don’t know why but we decided to make some passes over them anyway and see what happened.

We slow trolled tube jigs with either a leech, waxie, or Gulp “Earthworm” chunk attached for added scent. Productive colors were bumble bee and chartreuse/black. Crappies were on a subtle bite but manageable, gills very agressive and deeper than crappies. Sizes varied from “runt” to “big bulls” and crappies from 8-11″ long. Plenty of fat fish too!

On this plan, we boated 2 largemouth “bonus” bass… 13.5″ and 14.25″ Also had a 15″ walleye get in on the action, in 4′ of water/weeds. Amazing variety! Bass and walleye released but 19 panfish of 30+ caught came home with us for fish fry! YUMMM!

The bite lasted into the dark quite a bit before they shut down but it was a great evening on the water!

Thanks for the report. I need some people to give a report on wapo. It’s not too often people do and I am just a beginner on that lake…..so any info helps(like where your secret spot it;)!!! J/K. You did give me some information to get me started though. I am going to be up there next weekend though. I have a new Lund explorer 1600/ with a counsel. What kind of boat do you drive???? or would that give your spot away???? Anyways….please keep in tough with the WAPO bite…..It is a great lake but can be hard to fish or to find them. By the way….I was up there also and I do not know where the weeds went either. That was kind of weird I thought.

    Hi Guys,
I was out on the 4th with my boys and wifey. We hit the drop off near the south end of the lake by the entrance to bear trap and caught a few bass. we were out in the afternoon and after my son caught the 3 lb bucketmouth we attracted a crowd. Also the rec cruisers were out in force and the wakes were brutal. We landed a few bass but that was it. I need to get out there on thursday, my day off and check it out without all the traffic. The humps and drop offs are very present in this lake and I would love the opportunty to troll those areas. We were using some monster shiners i fished up from the creek. I am not having a lot of luck with the chubs, they seem to die quite quick in my tank, not sure why, the shiners are doing fine. Hope to get out this week. I’ll tell ya how I do.

Dad’s got plans to hit Wapo again tonight. I can’t go with him but he’s taking his youngest grandaughter along. I know he’ll be in that same area on the north end of the lake using tube jigs again. Dad’s a guy that sticks with what works, when it works. Get some tube jigs or green/chartruese “flu-flu” jigs, scent them, and troll them SLOWLY so your presentation has a chance to get down to the fish. Keep another rod handy with a small top water or Rooster Tail attached in case they’re looking for a different presentation.

Good luck on your next venture….. I won’t post again until Saturday or so.

Pa didn’t go…….. didn’t get a reason. Anyway, if you’re going to be up there this Sunday, the 18th, let me know if you’d like to hook up. I’ll escort you around the areas I know of. I’ve not fished Wapo much after mid-August so we’ll both need some help after that! Let me know!
