Want to catch them all

If you want to include some of you PB that would be interesting.

34 for me.

31 on poster – counting the Chestnut Lamprey for being attached to a Sturgeon.

Not sure it would up my count, but there’s many more species (rare) in MN than what are on this poster. there’s more probably 2 or 3 more species of redhorse, a couple other suckers, orange spotted sunfish, warmouth, freshwater eel and just a ton of “minnows” though they might not be part of the minnow family, officially. I bet I netted about every minnow (fatheads, shiners, chubs, darters, dace, etc) growing up. My source on the additional species is the coffee table book “The Great Minnesota Fish Book” by Tom Dickson and I HIGHLY recommend it!

I think I’m only at 20 on the poster, you river guys have a better chance than us lake guys. My PB is the Northern in my profile pic 38 inch and estimated 20lbs, on Walleye gear, I don’t target them. My PB Walleye I’m stuck at 28 inches. Bass I don’t measure and rarely target anymore. Crappie is 15 inches and Sunfish is I think 10 or 11. I have caught a couple muskies and both were Walleye fishing.

Rodwork you ever been snagging in Missouri ? We have been quite successful doing it .

Tried it for the first time last year and I am going to try and do it again this year. Could you PM me with some tips or start a thread about it? Even better if we could arrange to be down there at the same time. The only thing I got last year was a new lower unit from a sunken tree in 30’ of water. Nice fish!

I love chasing the fish on this poster. 48 currently not counting the lampreys. Not all were caught in Minnesota though. Missing the Tiger Muskie, pink salmon and of all things the brown bullhead.

Nice job EW6 on 48. I have been trying to mark them all off and go for something new each year. There have been a couple of years I have struck out with the something new. Part of the learning curve. I couldn’t keep bullheads off my line when I was a kid. I have no idea where you could track one down today. Where do you live? I could point you to some nice tiger muskie waters.

We used to catch bullheads all the time, but I havent caught one in probably 20 years now. Not sure why, but not complaining.

I’m at 18! Though some of the names are hard to read and it’s blurry when you zoom in. A sturgeon is definitely on my bucket list to catch sooner than later since I’ve never caught one before!

Don’t forget to add the American Eel to that list (I don’t see it on the poster).

Oklahoma is where to want to go to “catch” some GIANT paddles. Guide boats regularly catch several 30-100lbers every trip out.

My grandpa was the only one who liked cleaning bullheads. So I guess I am not complaining either. Might be a different story if I could use them as live bait on quick strike rigs for muskies and able to transport them.

Rodwork, I’m in Rochester and spend much of my time fishing the Mississippi which helps to find most of these species.

One area to consider for paddlefish if you don’t care as much about size is the dam in Yankton SD. Entering for a non-resident Nebraska paddlefish snagging permit allows you to fish right up to the dam where I can gaurentee you will snag at least a few if you spend a day out there and can navigate through the other boats to get close to the dam. They are in general skinny fish though that average 30-50” from tip of the paddle to the fork of their tail.

We used to eat bullheads when I was a kid. From what I remember they were quite good, but kind of a pain to clean. I never cleaned them, my dad always did.

Difficult to produce an exact count for me because of the similarities between many of the catfish species and sucker species, I can’t really say for sure how many of the different types I’ve caught.

Also, I’m missing the infamous green sunfish. That’s like trying to catch a unicorn.
