To me if your “middle class” you can afford a home, a vehicle and to pay your taxes and have enough left over to have some fun on the weekends. No way $40K is doing that anymore.

Agreed. Most people my son’s age could never afford a house especially now with the interest rates as they are right now.

If I qualified for this rebate, I personally would NOT be bragging about getting it. But I guess that explains why they qualify.

Having trouble following the logic on this one. Please splain it to me wormdunker.

This is what the google machine says “Middle Class” is in MN:
In Minnesota, in order to be considered middle class, a single person would have to make $25,441 – $76,323, a couple would have to make $35,979 – $107,937, and a family of four would have to make $50,882 – $152,646.

That’s a ridiculous range of income. There is a substantial difference between making 25 grand/year and 75 grand/year. One is literally 200% higher income. Google spit out a dud on that one.

Would you consider Lower-Middle Class, Middle Class and Upper-Middle Class as one group or 3 sub groups?

I think an easy way to determine what class you are in is what tax bracket you reside in.

22% rate is 44K-95K I would consider that middle class
24% rate is 95K-182K, Upper Middle Class
32% rate is 182K-231, I would still consider this upper middle class.

Hopefully the feds get with the program and adjust the 32% tax bracket to a higher value, $250K plus.

Every week I read about people saying “they” are trying to eliminate the middle class.

Too many classes IMO. Lower, middle, and upper class is as simple as you can make it. 25k/year is not middle class, obviously.

Localities vary by region, even within state. A house, cost of living, etc obviously costs a lot more in a place like Wayzata than it does in a place like Willmar. 75k/year would get you a house and an honest lifestyle in Willmar. Not even remotely close in Wayzata.

Well then if you want 3 classes, then you need to have a large range from the beginning of the class to the end. Soo 200% difference from top to bottom is going to likely happen, mostly in middle class because it’s the majority of Americans.

And yes, $25K is not middle class unless you’re making money here and living in Peru.

I will disagree with you, no amount of money will get you an honest lifestyle in Willmar. ) I grew up 13 miles from Willmar, hard pass. Have you driven through the “parking lot” at the mall? I’m getting off topic.

You’re talking about 2 different things though what is considered middle class and what cost of living is in your example. I still cannot fathom how 25k is considered middle class and I was just talking with people at the bar for lunch and they said “that’s poverty”. Hell a footlong at subway costs $15 now about crapped my pants when I last had one. Ridiculous. Thankfully we make so much food at our house and send leftovers home with my son each week so he doesnt have to buy too many groceries or eat out. He wouldnt have any money if he did.

Check, trust me I know how taxes work. I won’t go into detail, but you get a pretty good grasp of taxes when your net income is just over 60% of your gross.

So your saying you figured out a way to deduct 40% of your gross income… Is this personal or business. Seems awful large for a personal return.

You could be right although I didn’t pay as much attention because Putin wasn’t attacking Ukraine, China wasn’t actively harassing us about Taiwan, gas wasn’t as expensive as it is now, food prices while on the upswing didn’t rise as fast as they have under Biden. I didn’t notice because for whatever reason it seemed with a businessman (it didn’t matter if he was crooked or not) in charge vs a Politian the country seemed to be humming along better. The biggest distractions were a few harmless tweets that the butthurt took as gospel and of course the scandals. The distraction of the all out Trump attacks didn’t seem to start until the Dems realized they had nobody that could beat him.

Yes, maybe I should retract my remark about Biden / Walz.

I wasn’t aware of this refund or whatever they’re calling it. I also haven’t seen any deposits and don’t know what it takes to qualify or not. I’d imagine we’d be eligible if we got pro-rated money one of those other times from the stimulus thing? I’m sure I missed some email or mailing with the “what to do” along the way. It’s hard to keep up with the political stuff when you don’t turn on a television more than a handful of times per week.

My salary is commission based. But some of that 40% is intentional, 401k and my wife also has a gain share program that is subject to capital gains. So I’d much rather pay extra throughout the year than in April.

Well put Mr. Dutch. Definitely agree with you on this one.
And the Dems still are afraid and intimidated by him as they throw a ton of Sh$$t against the wall but they can’t make any of it stick. May I also add that my retirement account was up another 30% from where it is today.
Now it’s just a matter of the majority seeing it as just a long and drug out “witch hunt” and for the last 7 years the Dems have spent all there time trying to get him out and spent no time whatsoever doing something for the American public.
