Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquardt told reporters the first 200,000 or so payments landed in bank accounts Tuesday night. He said his department hoped to send out another 600,000 to 700,000 by the end of the day Thursday, and to finish with all the direct deposits Friday.

Thanks, I’ll watch for it if I’m eligible.

Is $35k to $60k honestly what they think “Middle Class” is for combined income? If they do, they are not helping middle class at all with this, just the lower class.
That was middle class when I first started working after college like 25 years ago.

60k is roughly $30 an hour. I’m in my 30’s and have never made that much in my life and don’t know many who have, either. And I know many who make considerably less than that.

Combined… meaning 2 incomes. I believe their parameters they are using, put the middle class at less than $75k for a single and $150 for dual income… that’s who is getting the stolen money anyways.

Well now, clearly that is incorrect because the more you make the less you pay.

I believe this day and age it should be a flat rate no matter how much you make or little we all pay the same percentage… wouldn’t that be equality?

Walz promised $1000 for an individual and $2000 for a couple (family).

The DFL trifecta spent down the surplus as much as they could and then added the income cap and lower pay-out.

Among the MN programs … Renters below a certain income threshold also receive a renter’s tax refund which pays out in August.

It is called redistribution of wealth !

Wonder why high wage earners and high/mid income retirees often settle down in FL, TN, and TX ?? No state income tax.

MN reduced state tax on Social Security. In WI it is not taxed at all.

State tax refunds are not taxable unless you itemize deductions on your federal tax return. If you itemize and claim state income tax deduction and then subsequently get a refund … that money is taxable. Many less people itemize now than before the Trump led tax reform.

I think they r referring to the ultra wealthy individuals(throw big corp in that pile) that use legal ways to shelter their income as to not get taxed on it.

Idk, perhaps it’s just my lonely opinion but I’m not too butthurt over the 7.85% that the state takes to provide me with all the services that they do. Pay to play in the first world. Fed rates grind my gears….

I am 42. Started working when I was 13. Work my tail off as does my wife. We got the refund. It will help pay a medical bill. So you tell me, which system are we working? I’ll wait…

Cuzz the people that make over 75K per year didn’t contribute to the 17B surplus. Only in East California. -)

Good one Bzzsaw, East California is exactly spot on ….

As always though, the problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people’s money …

For many … the refund is simply a portion of what they paid in. Therefore, it is a “refund”. For those that paid in the most – they do not get a refund …

I did the tax return for a hard-working individual that had an AGI about $65K, paid about $3K in MN state tax. A refund of $260 is not a hand-out.

Let’s separate out those who paid taxes and were refunded a portion and those who did not pay taxes and received a credit or pay-out/hand-out.

For those that think MN uses all your tax dollars wisely … I would suggest you do a little more research. Include the changes in spending that are occurring about now.

The amount of the refund shouldn’t be the issue. The issue is they stole 17 BILLION from the tax payers. They did nothing to reduce taxes. They did nothing to reduce debt. They raised the budget and stole the money……..show me the money they said, your money, we want all your money.

To be fair, it took both sides of the aisle to stage this heist. Don’t let your guy off the hook, he was involved one way or another.

I think that’s where a lot of us folks on here lose focus. The Governor doesn’t get to make this decision on his own. Its not like he just said “let’s dole out or spend this” without approval. Every spending decision goes through the state legislature. Now granted, that state legislature is fully democratic, so it mostly aligns with his requests and goals. But they were voted in last November by the majority population of this state. So if you don’t like how money is being spent, including a refund for those making XX amount, you can go vote in the next election cycle and get someone else in there. The federal budget is exactly the same. The President doesn’t get to make executive decisions on spending by himself. It requires the approval of both the House and Senate. Which is exactly why the Supreme Court struck down his student loan forgiveness request.

Checked my bank account this morning. No rebate. lol

Here’s my guy. I can’t imagine what went wrong.

Walz also wanted bigger checks sent to more people.

My first job out of college I made $28k a year (hourly plus OT) and that was in 1997. I was 22. Ive been making over 60k since I was 26.

If I qualified for this rebate, I personally would NOT be bragging about getting it. But I guess that explains why they qualify.

This is what the google machine says “Middle Class” is in MN:
In Minnesota, in order to be considered middle class, a single person would have to make $25,441 – $76,323, a couple would have to make $35,979 – $107,937, and a family of four would have to make $50,882 – $152,646.

That’s a ridiculous range of income. There is a substantial difference between making 25 grand/year and 75 grand/year. One is literally 200% higher income. Google spit out a dud on that one.

I agree 100%. In no way would I consider a single person making 25k middle class. That would mean my son would be considered middle class and he would never say he is with how tight things are for him.

To me if your “middle class” you can afford a home, a vehicle and to pay your taxes and have enough left over to have some fun on the weekends. No way $40K is doing that anymore.
