Walmart has made an announcement that they are going to discontinue selling handgun ammo.

I don’t buy hardly anything at Walmart just because I don’t care for the lack of customer service and/or the cliental base in there, but another major retailer removing gun/ammo sales can’t bode well.

    Let’s hear your thoughts.

They also decided to stop selling .223/5.56. Just gives me another reason to not want to shop there besides the people waytogo

My guess is that not many shooters were flocking to Walmart to buy most their handgun or .223 ammo anyway. Maybe as a last option or a quick purchase. Like others I’d rather avoid that place all together. Its nothing more than a modern day K-mart – Blue light special anyone !!!!

people may not have been flocking there to buy their ammo but they sure are to buy their clothes and groceries. i think for those that wanted to burn dicks to the ground with everyone in it for their decision last year will have a hard time with this one.

It ultimately will have little effect on anything. At least anything lasting.

I think the bulk of Walmarts patrons are too poor to buy ammunition in the first place. The only thing I go to Walmart for is shallots and a loaf of the wheat French bread.

They obviously did a cost benefit on this and showed they would gain more new shoppers than losing current ones.

It does show you the tide is turning with the sentiment towards guns in this country.

I’m a gun rights advocate but the tide is turning. Problem is there isn’t sensible dialogue on either side right now. You are either for or against. There need to be a middle ground that allows responsible owners to keep their second amendment rights while keeping guns out of the hands of people who are violent or mentally ill.

Complex issue but it needs open dialogue and reasonable solutions put forward.

I applaud Walmart for making a stand that could be unpopular with their core customer base.

Beautifully said, Matt. And I agree. Middle ground has disappeared, being swallowed up by extremists on both sides. It’s so sad to see where things are headed.

I personally have never bought ammo from Walmart and don’t often shop there anyway unless it’s a last resort. Fleet Farm and L&M Fleet Supply are my go-to stores.

This affects me about as much as Lululemon announcing they won’t be selling ammo…

As long as you don’t say that lululemont announced they stopped selling leggings I’m OK. Now if they stopped selling those, I know a few women who would go into a deep depression. And a few Men who would be really bummed jester

You may think its a dick thing to say, but in reality even Walmart admits their target market is lower income households. I’m just not sure Lower income = Poor.

I’m surprised that the state of California hasn’t outlawed the sale of ammo yet. Everyone knows that lead is the leading cause of terminal cancer. jester

Also, not everything to do with guns is done for political reasons.

I can see where ammo sales were a massive PITA to Walmart back during the .22 rifle craze where they had douchebag bucket-squatting resellers camped out in front of the store waiting to clean out the tiny supply of .22 ammo that they paid employees to tip them off to the arrival date. And they having to answer call after call asking about stock levels and complaining.

Because ammo is regulated, it’s a hassle to sell. Hassle = even lower net margins. Add to that the cost of staying on top of various state/local laws regarding handgun ammo sales = more expense and hassle.

In the internet age, the serious shooters are all getting bulk ammo online. That leaves chicken scratch sales for places like Walmart who now only have the casual “couple of boxes every few years” guys to sell to.

Can’t see why it didn’t happen sooner, actually.

It’s purely political, because they will continue to sell fudd ammo.
