Walleyes over fed

I’ve been fishing this pond that about 700 acres that has an over abundance of 6”-9” perch and it was stock with walleyes 5 years ago that have become nice size but can’t get them to eat probably because of all the perch. Any idea on how to entice them into eating.

fish at night , bigger baits alittle higher off the bottom so the fish can see your bait. my 2 cents.

I’m assuming your seeing fish on your graph. Have you dropped a camera down to make sure they are walleye?

Yes I’ve had a camera down most of the time and they are nice size walleyes that look like footballs.

Ive fished a lake as well that was supposedly stocked with walleyes and never caught one off that lake and so I gave up there. However, most other lakes I have no issues catching them. It could be the abundance of perch that is making it harder to catch.

I also agree fish with some medium suckers and see how it goes, but you will now have to wait…

Sounds like the pond needs more predator fish ADDED to the mix rather than taking some out.

This. Some hungry pike would cull out some of those perch and everyone gets a little more hungry. In the mean time keep culling some of those perch yourself. I’m just as happy with perch in the fry pan as I am with walleye. Sounds like you have a good problem to have. Enjoy!

Have you tried colors that are wildly different than perch color?

I’d be happy to come help you take some of the perch out of the lake and try for a walleye.

Sometimes they just aren’t hungry. If you just ate at the buffet, would you eat some more?

If they’re fattened up on perch, use something that imitates that. Eventually a walleye should attack your perch lure if that’s what they’re eating. Try a perch colored crank bait or jerk bait (assuming you can fish it in soft water season).

Trigger the reaction bite. Jigging raps, rippin raps, z-vibers, etc.

Also, if those eyes are like the eyes in a bunch of other SD lakes and sloughs, think shallow, even in the daytime, and think about what other food source they might be eating besides perch.

If bigger stuff doesn’t work try tungstens with little minnow-like plastics, like an inch long or less, it has helped me out on tricky walleyes before
