Update: All 3 dates will be launched in Pool 4, but as long as the lock is open you will be able to fish any OPEN waters north of there if you wish including Pool 3 & the St. Croix once open, which would include the last two dates. More information about the Mille Lacs, Big Water series, and additional details are in the the previous schedule post, but I wanted to get this River Series Update out right away.

Another important note is the 10 bonus points for team of the year goes for teams signed up through Sunday, and we’ll be at the NWSportShow for those of you that want to sign up there, or call NaCole (612)801-6132 to get registered.

    Craig or Mark,

Everyone is curious as to how many boats are signed up for the April 10th tourney, could you give us a rough idea?

Last I heard it was 30ish, but that was over a week ago and the last week is usually pretty busy so hopefully we’ll beat last years 53 boats, or better yet fill up. Invite your friends to sign up. We’ll be raffling off the first 3 boat numbers out, and then in order after that. Weather looks to be great for the weekend, and a good chance to test your skills in our first tournament of the year.
    4 more days…see you soon!

I was out on Pool 4 last night and stopped to talk to a few fisherman. I’ve already heard a story of a fist fight on the water as well as a story of a self proclaimed Full Throttle tournament fisherman getting all worked up and yelling when someone drifted just outside of casting distance.

I had a bad experience last year with a tournament fisherman. Let’s remember it’s public waters and we all need to play nice. Just cause you are in a tourney, you don’t have any more rights to the water and spots than the rest of us.

Can’t we all just get along

and isn’t this kind of action grounds for disqualification even if it is during pre-fishing? And why does someone get all irate while pre-fishing anyways?

If we see something that warrants reporting. Do we get their registration number to report? Is there another identifier we should use?

I have never had to turn anyone in before. But if there was any question, I would take the boats registration number and notify the tourney directors and leave it up to them. Everybody has their bad days and I would take that into consideration, but tourney players need to get their priorities straight and be humbled that their actions/attitude are also part of the requirements besides just catching the largest bag. Especially if the marketing of the tourney’s motto is “Faith-Family-Fishing and in that order”.
Now on the other hand, if you see a tourney fisherman stop to help a young fisherman on the other side of the river channel get their anchor unstuck during the tourney. I would be reporting that to tourney directors and sponsors as well, as that is the kind of action which should not be taken for granted but is far too often.

Just like any sport, there are always a few bad eggs. Full Throttle tournaments have the best sportsmanship of any tournament I’ve ever fished. I’m sure the tournament officials would like to know the person’s information, but the whole “pre-fishing” timeline could be hard to identify. I’ll be down there this weekend. Does that mean I’m pre-fishing for a tournament next weekend?

I didn’t want this post to get hijacked. It should be a great day on the water and hopefully we’ll see some big weights. Its good to hear the field is bigger than last year and the circuit is growing.

    Steve,
It wasn’t Randy and Dean it was me and that pesky back channel squirrel. He’s has gotten much bigger since that year during LPO and it was all I could do to keep him out of the boat

I made it a point at the tournament meeting to emphasize sportsmanship and quality fishing time in the beautiful environment God created for us, and we would handle poor behavior during a tourament, but have no control outside tournament hours. That being said I feel we have a great group of anglers, and agree that it’s everyones responsibility to get along and share what sometimes feels like limited space. The river can be crowded because of it’s great fishing opportunites, but there are more spots, and it’s not worth arguing over.
Thank you to all that fished with us yesterday, and I look forward to even more teams for the next event May 8th.
