Barge traffic for the FLW

    Here’s a handy link for anyone that is concerned with time or getting stuck behind a barge.

    Any tow over 8 barges is a double at L&D #3 (that means 2.5 hour wait)

    Other things to consider are tows that are coming up a pool and stop short of locking through. Many stop in Red Wing after traveling up from L&D #4.

    Disclaimer: Do not rely on my time accuracy. Flow rates, size and weight of tow’s should be considered.

    Bottom line…it’s a best guess and your results my vary greatly!

    here’s a ballpark figure, approx 6-7 hrs from LD4 to LD3 and 3hrs from LD2 to LD3 this is just the travel time and does not include the 2-2.5 hrs for the lockage

    fyi – Lil Charley is the “helper” boat, out of Red Wing, that assists downbound tows into Lock #3.
