I noticed that the rules for Red Wing are posted on the FLW website (Leech and Bemidji are still absent). The following caught my eye:

Catch Limit: 5, Size Limit: 15 inches minimum, 7 fish possession (weigh best 5), upgrading allowed

Link to rules on FLW website.

    Could it be a typo?

The Red Wing Tour event rules are as before. Catch Limit: 15 inches minimum, no upgrading, 7 fish possession limit (weigh best 5).

Could see a huge weight out of someone or a a few with that rule. Would be fun to see!

Pool 4 is no cull. It is illegal to “upgrade” on that pool.

They probably mean you can keep fishing with 6 fish in the boat, box up your 7th and you are done.

That’s the typical “no upgrading” FLW approach.

On Bemidji 2 yrs ago, where the “upgrading allowed” rule was in place, we were allowed 7 fish in possession, weigh the best 5, but we could cull (upgrade) as long as the released fish was alive and kicking.

I doubt Mn or WI would ever issue a tourney permit that allowed culling on Pool 4.

I noticed the same thing a while back and posted that question on the FLW forum, but no responses.
Must be a typo or means to fill the field.

The rules have been updated on the FLW website.

For Red Wing…Catch Limit: 5, Size Limit: 15 inches minimum, 8 fish possession (weigh best 5), no upgrading

For Leech…Catch Limit: 8, Size Limit: 14″ minimum but no more than 18″ with 2 over 26″ (weigh best 5), no upgrading

For Bemidji…Catch Limit: 5, Size Limit: 14″ minimum with 2 over 20″, upgrading allowed up to your state possession limit.

Not posted yet, Kirt, and the subject of some pretty intense local speculation.

We have to remember that Wissota has a 14-18″ release slot, with one fish over 18″ allowed per angler.

Generally, when we look for Wissota keepers, we’re looking for those 13.5-13.75″ fish.

FLW has a 14″ minumum, unless superceded by local regs.

It is feasible that the Wissota event will have a 2-fish bag, with both fish over 18″…a big fish contest. That will lead to a lot of zeros. A lot…my guess is 75% of the field.

It is also feasible that FLW will relax its length rule, and have a 5-fish bag with up to 2 over 18 and the rest up to 14″ (maybe a 12-14″ keep slot). Those were the DNR-approved regs for our Wissota tournament last year.

Per the DNR biologist who issued the permit, the 14-18″ slot will definitely be in effect for the FLW tournament. How the FLW deals with that is something I’m anxious to see.
