Announcing the Mark Rehberg Memorial “Saugerama” 2007

    Date: October 20, 2007

    Location: Evert’s Resort http://www.evertsfishingresort.com/

Boundaries: Mississippi River Pool 4 (Dam to Dam)

    Time: 7:30am to 3:00pm

This tournament is being held in rememberance of Mark Rehberg who was killed in a deer hunting accident during the 2006 gun deer season. The river was a very special place to Mark, as he would spend as many days as possible fishing there. Mark was also a very avid hunter, he would spend as much time in the woods as possible, wether it was deer hunting, grouse hunting, or pheasant hunting. He was also a great friend to many, many people, and a great father and family person. This tournament was started so that people could gather for a day and spend it fishing, laughing, meeting new people, and to share the many stories that are out there.

Entry Fee for two person team will be $50. There will be two optional big fish pots. One for walleye and one for sauger. $5 for each entry. Payback will be 80% to top 15% or top 3 places, depending on number of teams. 100% payback on each big fish pot. Weigh-in limit will be 8 SAUGERS with possesion limit of 12. Walleyes do not count for your total weight. 14″ min. on saugers, and 15″ for walleyes. There will be drawings for teams placing out of the money for 2 Rainshadow custom rods.

Resgister the day of tournement. No pre-registering needed. Please come early to get signed up. Cash only please.

This is an informal and laid back event. There will also be hot dogs and chips after the weigh-in. So, grab your fishing partner and come join us for this great event.

What would the technique be for that time of year on the river. I have never fished the river in the fall like this but I would like to do this to help and raise money. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

My guess is that it would be a lot of the same techniques you would use in the spring for similiar water temps.

Marty and I will be there!

You name it, it will work. Plastics. Hair. Hair and meat. Plain old meat. Blades. 3-ways and stickbaits. What presenation will work better than others will be determined by flow, water temp, water clarity, etc. But all of the techniques listed above will produce saugers and walleyes during the fall blitz.

I think Brians a walleye guy slowly coming out of the closet. Remember all those BIG walleye picks we saw from his past guide trips? I think he fishes for eyes at night and just tells everyone hes out cattin so nobody follows him. Keep it between you and me though.
    Thanks, Bill

Well first off thanks for all the interest. If it keeps going like this we should have a decent turn out.

Just a quick note here. You do NOT have to be an experienced tourny fisher or even an experienced fisherman. If or when you come down just stop in the bait shop and Dean will get you set up with everything you may need for baits, and also head you in the right direction as to where the fish are biting. It is open to all who care to just get out fishing for the day.

I hope you all can make it. It should be a great time, and we might even have a few more suprise drawings.

Hey Eric! Count me in for the Saugerama…I don’t fish many tourneys anymore but this is a great cause…it is not a high pressure, gotta win at all cost experience…(which is what I dont like about Tournaments!

Come on Guys! If I am gonna trek 300+miles to fish P-4 I wanna see some familiar names and match faces to them!
I’ll be tossing blades and plastics and really just enjoying the fall fishing as only P-4 can serve up…

Lets get a full slate of contestants and support this cause!!!

    Tom,
The boy and I are planning on dragging the pick-up camper down and pre-fishing a few days before the tourney so hopefully we can meet up and put faces to names. I don’t drink much anymore but I might be persuaded to tip one or two in the evening if the fish stories are good enough! I’m really looking forward to spending a few days cool Fall days on the river.

    Hey Tom!
I told the Nebraska guys they should make a pit stop at the saugerama on their way to Mille Lacs. Ben Garver sounded interested. Its gonna be tough to talk those pond trollers into spending that saturday in Red Wing.

I should be able to make it to fish in the saugerama, it sounds like a good time. Just curious what weight won the contest last year and also what won the biggest fish walleye and sauger. It sounds like a fun laid back event at a reasonable price.

Thank you, see you there on the 20th

Thank you for posting that Eric. Those are some pretty impresive weights for sauger. Fish must have really been biting it looks like alot of limits were caught. It is not to often that you see the biggest sauger bigger than the biggest walleye.

    Thanks

That time of year the saugers are on a tear. Many, almost all teams brought in a limit. Remeber though those weights are for 8 fish. You can have 12 in the boat but only weigh 8.

The way the weather is turning out right now it should be shapening up to be about the same for this year

I posted this up on trip swap allso.

I kinda know pool 4. Never really targeted saugers, I am sure it will be a donation only to the winners. I have the boat if someone wants to partner up PM me.

I can`t say it is in stone yet, that I can make it but I should know in the next week.

    Hey guys,
If anyone is looking for a partner for the tourney my Dad’s partner backed out on him and he is without a seat now. Send me a PM if anyone is interested.
Tom P, I sent you a PM if you’re still looking for someone.

    Thanks.
