June 18, 2007 at 12:06 am #581380Thanks guys. Wow, what a week. First off I’d like to thank all of the guys who helped me pre-fish for this event. Scott, Patrick (Fishthemall), Todd, John (Rigging Guy), my brother Tim, Aaron (it was good to meet you), and of course my wife can all share in my success. Without them I would not have been able to locate all of the good schools of slot fish that we had going, and boy did we need all of them yesterday. Mother Nature threw a nasty curve ball at us on tournament day and cooled what was an otherwise ridiculous bite. We really struggled early, until we hit a 28″ fish in our slot fish spot. Boy was she a pleasant surprise. It was a tough grind it out day, and we did not boat our limit fish until 2:52. We caught a ton of fish just over 20″ and three fish just under the 28″ mark. We pulled two nice slots, a 17″ and a 19.5″ right at the last minute to fill out our bag and upgrade a skinny 16″ fish. Turns out we didn’t need them, but we were just as excited catching that last 17″ fish as we were catching the pig! Nice job Glenn at pulling those two last slots.
We knew that we had a winning pattern going during pre-fishing, but I was very nervous going into the tournament. Each day of pre-fishing we boated a limit of high-end slots with at least one over 28″ fish to go with it. Things were going way too easy during pre-fishing, so I figured I had used up all of my luck. The walleye gods were definately looking down on us. Hopefully my luck will hold out for one more tournament. It is very fullfilling to win a tournament against the great competitors fishing these events. Thanks again for all the support, and I hope to see you all up in Bemidji. For anyone who is not fishing these events, I would encourage you to do so. The events are a blast, and you get to meet some great people.
P.S. Mike, I did not recognize you. You were just a little too far away when you came by, but thanks for the on-water encouragement. I was surprised to hear someone call my name out there. We had just finished picking up a fish just barely under 28″, and we thought for sure it was over when we netted it. That fish was a lot heavier than the one we weighed. You would have heard us yelling all the way down at Izaty’s had that fish made 28″. It was sooo close, but we didn’t dare keep it. We were already sweating bullets over the 28-1/16″ fish we had in the box.
June 18, 2007 at 2:18 am #581424Jim said he got to watch you first hand get those last 2. Just his luck. It’s a great feeling when it all works out. Good luck on the next one!
