I just emailed Sonny about the boundries. He replyed back that we are restricted to Wisconsin waters as of now. So you can not transfer fish over from the Minnesota side. Pool #3,#4,#5 is open to fish. We can fish until the registration meeting as well on Friday. He said the web site is uptodate with this information. Any questions to email Sonny at FLW. Their is a possibility that this could change on the border issue. So I thought I would just give everybody a heads up on this.

A lot of people are going to be less than pleased to hear this. This will cut down a lot of fishable water and turn this tournament into a race to the few spots that we are allowed to fish.
I know a few guys that were on the fence about fishing it may not now.

Isn’t this ruling due to the recent FEDERAL mandate regarding VHS???

We have already had the WI and MN DNR’s reply that it is not a problem. Tournaments can be run as they have been. You can run up any tributary to the first natural or man made impediment, such as a dam.

I am sure when Sonny sees this, he will open ‘er up.

The reason is because of a new federal law trying stop the spread of a new disease found in fish. The same reason we could not fish the ontario side of the Detroit River last week. During the rules meeting they indicated that they thought the issue would be resolved by the tournament date and all water would be fishable but this is not forsure yet. I would wait to hear from FLW before concluding that all waters will be open.

    From Sonny:

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for the update. I will be in Minneapolis for the DNR meetings Thursday and I’m sure that the USFDA reg’s will be a topic of some discussion.

It will be very interesting to hear what they decide to do and the reasons given. I appreciate what they are trying to do BUT if there is a problem on the Wisconsin side of the river water there will be the same problem on the Minnesota side too. So making the restriction makes no sense to me. Please keep us posted Tuck.

    Thanks, Bill

I am fishing the MTT this weekend and we are being told it is fishing as usual. There is no change to the ability to fish or not fish certain areas of water. The tournament folks for the MTT have been in contact with the DNR and are satisfied that we have nothing to worry about. FISH ON

I hope they find out soon. It would be terrible to pre-fish spots you can not fish . Please post Sonny’s response as soon as you get it. I will try and call Sonny on Friday. I have not had a chance to fish the river yet. So it would be nice to know before I get their inorder to make some sort of game plan.
